RUN
RunDisney races can be overwhelming for a first-time participant. Today, we share tips for a magical race experience from our Runcation Nation!
Here’s a link to a product Kristin mentioned in her tip. (It is an Amazon Affiliate link for the show. It costs nothing extra to order through it. Still the same Amazon site and cost. You help support the show, too.)
HOPESHINE Arm Cooling Sleeves: https://amzn.to/3qE1wuW
EAT
Time for soup, salad, and sides at Hollywood Brown Derby! Hollywood Brown Derby is famous for its Cobb Salad. Yes, we had that, but we also had incredible soup and sides. We talked about them while we enjoyed them in the restaurant. We share our reactions on the show this week with you. (It makes us want to go back as soon as possible!)
DRINK
Hollywood Brown Derby has an extensive cocktail list. We had the Derby cocktail and shared our thoughts as we sampled it for the first time during our meal. You know how we love bourbon. We also wanted to try the Grapefruit Cake Martini, too. We had it from the drink stand outside later, and it was so good!!
THAT’S A WRAP!

CONGRATS TO ALL WHO RAN THE 2023 JEFF GALLOWAY HALF MARATHON WEEKEND SPRING EDITION
This past weekend, our coach held a brand new edition of a favorite: The Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a spring edition that brought some of the same things we love along with a new theme for the 5K. We wish we could have been there, but we became ill on the night before we were supposed to leave for the race. We want to wish everyone a hearty congratulations who completed a race or challenge during this awesome weekend. Shout out to Kevin Gwin who always puts together a great celebration for his Extra Mile Podcast crew, too! 2024, here we come! We have to make up for lost time on that course and with our coach!
EAT and DRINK: ATLANTA FAVORITES
Atlanta, like Jacksonville and Tampa in Florida, Atlanta is absolutely full of tasty food and beverage options for celebrating your accomplishments at Jeff Galloway’s race weekend. We look back at a few of our favorites from previous episodes since we were unable to go this year. There are some tasty options including:
Wrecking Bar BrewPub (Episode 17)
Trader Vic’s and Orpheus Brewing (Episode 46)
Highlander and Scofflaw Brewing (Episode 92)
The Flying Biscuit (Episode 195)
THAT’S A WRAP!

RUN WITH MEB! Benefiting the MEB Foundation
It is true, we just completed a fun race weekend with the Runcation Nation at the Gasparilla Distance Classic in Tampa, but we have to talk about Dana’s hometown for one more week on the show because this week, we are lucky enough to chat with Meb Keflezighi about his inaugural race coming up in May, the Run with Meb! Benefiting the MEB Foundation. This event features a 1-mile, 5K, and 10K offering, both in-person in Tampa and Virtual. Meb told us all about it. Thank you, Meb, for putting it together and taking the time to talk with us about this first annual event. We can’t wait to run it with you. Or, more accurately, at the back of your pack in Al Lopez Park in May! Save us a high five at the finish!

EAT & DRINK
Wood Fired is a pizza and wine bar near the University of South Florida in Tampa. It is a small and quaint place that is huge in flavor! We had salads, appetizers, and pizza that were so flavorful! We recommend this place if you are scouting colleges or heading to Busch Gardens in Tampa. In addition, there are local craft beers on tap and a wide range of wines on the menu, from less expensive to higher-end choices. We went with a glass of house wine, and it was delicious.

Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too!
Congratulations to Marathoner Nicole Kay from the Cape Coral Running Group on completing her first-ever MARATHON!
Congratulations to all who ran the 2023 Gasparilla Distance Classic this past weekend! It meant so much to run with Jessica, JoJo, Darlene, Susie, Christy, Greg, Dawn, and so many others that we did not get a chance to run into, like Laurie. Patron of the show, Dean Gerber, got a PR in the half marathon distance, as did his wife Judy in the 8K. To have Fitz announce this race and be a part of the weekend with us made it an incredible start and finish line feeling, too!
Congratulations to all who ran the 2023 Princess Half Marathon Weekend. We saw so many on social media who posted medal pictures and footage from the Runcation Nation, so to everyone there, congratulations on running and cheering.
Patron Meg Brower crossed that post-surgery finish line at the Princess 10K in Orlando.
Congratulations to one of our favorite local breweries, Fort Myers Brewing Company, who started the craft beer movement here in Lee County, Florida. Happy ten years, @fmbrew! Here’s to many more! Cheers!

Thanks to Darlene for setting up the post-half celebration for the “Runcation Nation.” Jotoro is in the Channelside location of Tampa, and it did not disappoint. Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too!
We want to shout out everyone in the Runcation Nation who ran for The Donna Foundation.
This was our first year on the D Squad, led by Babs. She earned a shiny new PR on Sunday in the half marathon! Congrats, Babs, and thanks for all the guidance this year.
Emily O’Keefe, congrats on finishing two challenges in a month, including MARATHONS. Dopey and the Booby Trap Marathon Edition! Congrats to your friend who ran with you postpartum, too!
Wesley Twiggs, related to one Chris Twiggs, earned 5th place this year in his DONNA race during the weekend! Congrats, Wesley!
We got an email this week from Alan Young, too, with a recommendation:
Subject: Thank you from Alan Young
Message: Hi! Thanks again for the help. I am now following you on Facebook and YouTube. When visiting Anaheim, suggest “Cafe Hiro,” a Japanese fusion restaurant with a non-sushi omakase menu. About $45 per person with a four-diner minimum.
Thanks for coming out to cheer during the January WDW events. Not good on voice recordings. Do have a shoutout when we finished the full. Let me know if you want to hear it. (Tech challenged) Also, if you're going to see any of the older Disney marathon stuff, let me know. We got a lot of items this year.
Enjoy your runcation philosophy. Great to run to.

Blue Orchid Thai Cuisine has two locations in the Jacksonville area, and Dana visited one on Friday night. It Is not often that we highlight Thai food, but we LOVE it. This was a recommendation from Donna Foundation board member Amy Mergen, and she was spot-on with it. Dana describes every course and every sip. Thanks, Amy! We want to shout out everyone in the Runcation Nation who ran for The Donna Foundation. Whether you ran virtually in Jacksonville with Dana or offered crowd and online support during our live chats, you all made it a wonderful weekend. Dana celebrated love over fear and had an incredible weekend because of all of you.
While many of you ran DONNA, Darlene put another state on the map, and she is so close she can taste the finish line! Congrats on your Mississippi River Half, Darlene!

RUN
This week, we highlight the start of the 2023 Destination DONNA Marathon Weekend. Dana flew solo in Jacksonville, so he discusses the experience of the 5K because it had a completely different venue and feel this year. Did he love it? Would he want the course to be the same in 2024? Find out.
EAT
We featured Wicked Barley back on Episode 51 for food and beverage. Dana wanted to kick off the weekend right, and since he was staying mere moments away from this favorite of ours, he returned to have some tasty food at Wicked Barley Brewing in Jacksonville. Is it still the same menu? Is the quality still next-level? He gives his honest review here on the show.
DRINK
Dana was also right around the corner from Veterans United Craft Brewery and took the opportunity to revisit various favorite styles from the menu. He also checked out the space and some live music there, too. Has it changed? Is it still a favorite? These are questions he answered this week.
THAT’S A WRAP!
Of course, there is more to explore, and we can’t wait to bring you this year’s finds from the weekend! Stay tuned for a recap after this emotional and incredible race weekend.

RUN
This week, Aimee flies solo as Dana heads to Jacksonville for one of our favorite race weekends, The Donna Marathon Weekend 2023. We preview what is ahead this weekend that celebrates survivorship, determination, love, and light. This weekend helps raise funds for The DONNA Foundation to support its mission to finish breast cancer and support those who are fighting it. From the special guests to the partnership with Destination Marathons, it promises an unforgettable experience.
EAT
This week, I asked Dana what his top three destinations for delicious food are in Jacksonville, based on our experience at this race weekend and the Gate River Run 15K. We both ended up highlighting the following:
Poe’s Tavern: https://www.runeatdrink.net/podcast/2019/2/22/red-episode-52-half-marathon-at-donna-and-engine-15?rq=donna
DRINK
Flask and Cannon at V Pizza: https://www.runeatdrink.net/podcast/2022/2/12/red-episode-200-donna-marathon-weekend-5k-and-v-pizzanbsp?rq=donna

RUN
Over Thanksgiving, we participated in the 43rd Annual Fort Myers Turkey Trot 5K hosted at the Edison Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers. Jessica and Kelly from the Runcation Nation were there with their families. Kelly’s children volunteered at the water stop, and Jessica’s son ran the race with friends. We experienced this race on a brand new course throughout the beautiful neighborhoods around the historic site.
EAT
We have found a new dessert tradition for the holidays! Dana discovered a Cookie Butter Pie. We both love the Biscoff cookies we get on airplanes. He found it through social media.
Cookie Butter Pie Video is available on TikTok at the following link:
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTR4gfyFG/
This recipe did not disappoint. If you are a fan of those cookies… make this dessert! It was the sleeper hit of Thanksgiving with our family, and now they want it at Christmas too!
Here are the ingredients we used (These are Amazon affiliate links. If you choose to make the recipe and order from Amazon, it helps support the show at no extra cost to you.):
Biscoff Cookies (1- 8 oz package) https://amzn.to/3h2G80Z
Unsalted Butter (4 tablespoons) https://amzn.to/3Y37TH7
Jar of Biscoff Cookie Butter (14.1 ounces) https://amzn.to/3VE7ZTT
Cream Cheese (8 ounces) https://amzn.to/3Hjf2wX
Confectionary Sugar (1 cup) https://amzn.to/3UDSCd6
Vanilla (to taste) https://amzn.to/3Y2GGo2
Salt (1/4 teaspoon) https://amzn.to/3BfGbNO
Heavy Cream (1 1/4 cup) https://amzn.to/3W4awa1
We aren’t going to lie… We used whipped cream that was made already to top the pie (as much as you would like) https://amzn.to/3UzdMcg
DRINK
Right in the neighborhood where we ran is one of our favorite breweries, Coastal Dayz Brewery. We are fans of winter brews, and new owner Alex Tatko created a tasty Winter Ale for us to try this week. Holiday spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, and subtle notes of orange zest, molasses, and vanilla? Yes, please. Thanks, Alex! It is a mighty tasty way to get us into the holiday spirit.

RUN
The Florida Run 10K Trail Run in Clermont, Florida at Lake Louisa State Park was a great event for us to get some distance in and meet some great new people at the same time. We got up super early and drove to Clermont, which is close to the Orlando area, to run our 2nd EVER trail run at this event. We love the shirt, medal, and the lessons we learned on the trail! Shout to to Loren, Gail, and Leslie. We met these three great people before the race. Gail and Leslie walked the race with us while Loren ran the half marathon event.
EAT
Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is an opportunity sample some great food from some of the first booths we experienced at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. There are some we have missed so much for a few years. Welcome back, Greece! This is the first time we have covered this booth on our show, but it is one of the OG booths we fell in love with at this festival.
DRINK
Belgium, man… Belgium. This booth had a great beer flight from some great breweries we love. It also started to get us into the festive fall and holiday spirit for November and December. St. Bernardus Witbier, Belgian Abbey Ale, and Delirium Red Fruit Ale are tasty brews we sampled in this Belgium beer flight. We play back our review from our visit to Belgium in the World Showcase on this week’s show. Can’t wait to get back to this one or get some St. Bernardus or Delirium brews for the holidays here at home!

RUN
The Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is in the books. This week we recap what the weekend was like for us and where we are going from here. We have some pixie dust moments to share, and we discuss how this weekend is motivation to dedicate ourselves to training for the next race.
EAT AND DRINK
Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is an opportunity to sample food from around the world or taste one of our favorites in new and creative ways. We did the latter this time at the Brew-Wing Booth. This is a return to this booth. Last year, we tried their vegan option of brussel sprouts. They are back, but this time, we tasted two different samplings of chicken wings - a sweet one and a spicy dish, too! Plus a cider and a beer from this booth, too! We captured our first impressions to play for you in this episode while we sampled the food and beverages in the air conditioning of this enormous building right around the corner from Test Track at Epcot.

Here We Go Again... A Hurricane Episode Part Deux
Wednesday Nov 09, 2022
Wednesday Nov 09, 2022
Good evening, all! As we record this it's about 8:00 PM.
We wanted to take a moment to send this out while we still have power and internet. Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out to us to check on us. We can't thank you enough for your concern. We are hoping that everyone in Florida stays well and safe through Hurricane Nicole.
Aimee and I have taken all necessary steps to prepare for the storm and secure our home. We are riding it out in the area and know what to expect.
We could have a repeat of power and internet outages here. We are hoping for the best while preparing for whatever may come in this latest storm, Hurricane Nicole. As soon as we are able to post an update here and on our social media, we will.
We hope to see you all in our weekly live chat on Friday. We intend and hope to have it on Friday at 7 PM Eastern.
To everyone else in the path of the storm, please be careful and stay safe. We look forward to being able to accomplish, explore, and indulge with you all really soon.
-Dana and Aimee

Thanks to all our patrons and everyone in the Runcation Nation for your support and encouragement. Because of you, we have been able to keep the show going over the last two years, and now that the races are returning, we look forward to meeting up with you, too!
Happy birthday to patron and friend of the show, Jennifer Hall. Shout out to Tory Nadeau, who is celebrating a birthday, too. Tory and her father, Rob, who we lost last year, have been great supporters of the show. This week, we wish both Jennifer and Tory the happiest of birthdays!
We received an email for a shoutout on our show this morning, too:
“Hey, guys,
I absolutely love your show. I found it during quarantine when there were no races and it really got me through some dark times running wise It’ss one of my favorite podcasts out there and the positivity you bring to the show really shines through. So thank you for doing what you do. I wanted to give a shout out.
My husband Jordan recently completed his first 5k at the Run Daytona 5K in Daytona Beach Florida. This is a big deal because he is not a runner and did it for me since I am the runner in the house. I wanted to give him a shout out and let him know how proud I am of him.
Thank you so much for doing what you do again.
Kristin”

RUN
The Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is upon us! We forgot two key topics we wanted to discuss with you, so here’s a bonus episode this week ahead of the race weekend! Pack for any weather, of course!
VERY IMPORTANT RUNNERS: Remember to set your clocks back on Sunday as we end daylight saving time and fall back. You don’t want to get up too early for the half marathon on Sunday!
Regarding the run, we need to share tips about the weather and time. We are big fans of JeffGalloway’s book, Mental Training for Runners, available at Amazon. Aimee also asks the Runcation Nation for positive messages and happy birthday wishes. Please send them if you have the time. If you record an audio message, send it to info@runeatdrink.net or if you want to leave us a voicemail message, we can play it on race day, call 941-677-2733. It would help us celebrate Dana’s birthday and give us much-needed positive messages we can play as we complete those miles this weekend.
EAT AND DRINK
Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, we have a preview of one of our favorite booths from this year: Coastal Eats. This booth is a tasty treat. It has briny and delicious tastes of the sea, including Oysters Rockefeller and Baked Scampi. We also had a great beer there, Bells Lager of the Lakes Bohemian Pilsner from Comstock, MI.
