Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
Wednesday Jun 29, 2022
It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
Next up it’s our anniversary episode from last year to round out the month’s look back at the most meaningful episodes. We have no words to thank you for making the last five years truly great!
SHOUT-OUTS

Special thank you to our patrons, too! We have been able to expand our studio and keep the show going over the last year and a half. We can’t express how much it means to us. We appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts.

RUN
It’s the long-awaited preview of our race calendar for the second half of 2021. These races are only a starting point, but they include:
And of course, we couldn’t help but go just a bit into 2022 because this race is a must-do, we want it to be a “Runcation Nation” meetup, and they have announced that it will be an in-person event… The Donna Marathon Weekend 2022!
We also talk about our favorite moments from our show’s history on the racecourse. Dana and Aimee share favorite and funny moments from the show.
EAT
We run so that we can explore great food, of course. So what have been the best meals we’ve had on the show? Aimee and Dana choose their favorites from the 4-year run of the show!
DRINK
And… last, but certainly not least, we run to indulge in great beverages. Which ones do we crave and want to have again and again? Which ones do we long to get back to as soon as possible? We chat about that, too!
Thanks to everyone who called in and sent messages wishing us a Happy Anniversary! It did our hearts so much good! We love you all and can’t wait for an incredible 5th year with you all!
If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation!
NEXT WEEK: We recap Richard’s Run For Life that took place on Father’s Day. We will also discuss a great vegan option we found in Tampa after the race!
THAT’S A WRAP!

RUN
While we were at the Anchorage RunFest, we met up with two inspirational figures in the running community: Marko Cheseto and Bart Yasso. We heard Marko talk at the pasta feed on Saturday of the race weekend. We think the lessons he spoke about are worth sharing, and we do so from a bit of audio we captured at the luncheon. We discuss these lessons and what they mean to us in running and life. (Please forgive the audio. A fire alarm was going off for much of Marko’s speech. His message is worth hearing, and hopefully, you can get past that to listen to the meaningful message. Thank you for hanging in there, if you can.)
EAT
Grizzly Dogs Food Truck was outside King Street Brewing while we were in Anchorage for the Anchorage RunFest. When we saw their menu, we couldn’t help but try their signature item, "The Grizzly Dog" for 10.00. They chop a reindeer sausage and smother it with sautéed onions, peppers, and cheese sauce. Yum! Other items on their menu piqued our interest, so… of course, we want to get back to it when we are in Anchorage again.
DRINK
King Street Brewing is a huge space with tasty beer on the menu and a beautiful view of the mountains in Anchorage. You can sample their beer from any three stories while you look over into the brewing facility or take a seat by a window and admire the beautiful Mountain View while having a cold one. They have a wide variety of styles on their menu. We talked about what we had while we were there. We hope to get back to this neat space with many friendly beer tenders.
If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation!

EAT
It’s Cinco De Mayo, and we hit one of our favorite local restaurants for some incredible Mexican food. Mexico Lindo is here in Cape Coral. We had table-side guacamole, a Ribeye Ala Mexicana, and Beef Tamales. They were delicious! This little place has excellent service and tasty entrees to celebrate this festive holiday. Do you have a favorite place to celebrate Cinco De Mayo? Let us know!
DRINK
Mexico Lindo has an extensive cocktail menu and beer list. We ordered a super-sized Negra Modelo. It is widely available and a malty and refreshing beer. It was served with a wedge of lime and had no hoppy or bitter finish. It came in two different sizes. You know what they say.. go big or go home!
If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation!

EAT
To celebrate the honor and privilege it is to interview running royalty, we went to a tasty local spot, Jungle Bird Tiki. During our visit, we explore the small plates menu. It's a Tiki Surf and Turf. These two dishes were terrific. Crab Wonton Dip and Beef Carpaccio have a Tiki flair here and so many layers of flavor. You want the dishes, more of this menu, and the experience at Jungle Bird Tiki.
DRINK
Jungle Bird Tiki also had creative and tasty Tiki cocktails… How could we say no?
These libations pack a punch that can sneak up on you. Jungle Bird Tiki has classic Tiki cocktails but also House Tiki beverages. We started with the specialties of the house. The Mississippi Hog and the Banana Hammock transport you to a tropical and relaxing state of mind at this place. If you visit us, you should check out Jungle Bird Tiki.
If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation!

EAT
This week we share a local spot in heart of downtown Fort Myers called The Standard. We ate brunch there, and it did not disappoint! The restaurant was a flurry of activity when we arrived with karaoke in full swing. We would strongly advise that they take reservations, but there happened to be an opening right away, so we took it! The bar was stocked with local and well-known brews plus bottomless mimosas and bloody marys for $20 to go with the meal. We started with the jalapeño and sausage corn muffins. They were tender and flaky with a breakfast sausage flavor and just a hint of spice. Dana had “The Hangover” breakfast sandwich, and it was full of breakfast meats, eggs, and cheese on a soft brioche bun. Aimee had the “Short Rib Hash,” one of several hash dishes that looked mouth-watering as they came out of the kitchen. The Standard does not skimp on the tender meat in the hash, the potatoes were seasoned perfectly, and the over-easy eggs had a perfectly runny yolk a-top this perfect-sized skillet.
If you come to the Fort Myers area, check out The Standard for the entertainment and the tasty dishes. We can’t wait to go back and try their regular menu, too!
DRINK
This week, we got the chance to attend a Coffee Connoisseur Tasting and Certification at the Luminary Hotel in Fort Myers. Ulli Winckler is the master roaster for Dean St. Coffee Roastery at the Luminary Hotel and president of Rebel Coffee in Cape Coral. We got a unique behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to roast coffee and tasted 12 different varieties of coffee. We break down what we learned this week.

EAT
This has been a rough winter for many of our running friends. There is nothing better than a recipe that warms the soul to celebrate that accomplishment when it comes to getting out there for a run in the cold. A great Irish comfort food dish that we love is Shepard’s Pie. There is a great place in Disney Springs we have featured on the show before, Raglan Road, with a delectable and meaty version of this dish.
We have featured one of our favorite cookbooks, The Healthspan Solution, on past episodes, including chatting with authors Ray Cronise and Julieanna Hever on Episodes 108 and 109 last year.
This week we made the Shepherdess Pie from the book. We review it in this episode and talk about what made it so hearty and satisfying as a Vegetarian dish.
You can get the Kindle or hardcover book at our Amazon affiliate links below. It does not cost anything additional to purchase the book through the links we list, but it does help support the show.

DRINK
We talked about a couple of favorite holiday drinks that warm the soul back in Episode 88 of our show. We typically make a Mulled wine each year for Thanksgiving and Christmas to share with the family. It can help you celebrate a live race you’ve run this winter or help you warm up after a run in particularly harsh winter conditions.
We linked to a recipe online but did not share our recipe in that particular episode. This week, we feature our recipe with an option for reduced sugar.
Ingredients (Serves 6-8 cups of wine)
1 - 750 ml bottles of a favorite red wine ( we selected a barrel-aged Cabernet Sauvignon
2 oranges- zest and juice of one and the other sliced in rounds to use for garnish
8 whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
2 whole nutmegs
*Normally a cup of sugar and water are added to sweeten the recipe. To make a more healthful version, you can leave this out and drink it without sweetening or use agave nectar or honey to taste with each serving.
Directions
Pour wine into the instant pot or crock pot. Add the zest of the orange. Squeeze the juice of the orange into the wine and add the whole orange into the pot. Cook on low for two hours. Pour into mugs, stir in agave nectar or honey to sweeten, if desired, with a garnish of an orange slice and enjoy!
If you choose to indulge, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or taking a rideshare service. Stay safe, Runcation Nation!

Thanks to all our patrons, we have been able to expand our studio and keep the show going over the last year. This week, we were so happy to hear that Josh Ozbirn decided to go from a Founder to an Insider of our show. Plus, we welcome a brand new Insider, Joanne Blatchley, or as we like to call her, Jojo! Thank you to Josh and Jojo for their continued support as patrons of the show at the highest level. We can’t express how much it means to us. EAT
This week, we got a bit of cooler weather here in Florida, so Dana made soup. But not just any soup. It is a vegetarian version of a soup we are fond of at The Columbia Restaurant. The Spanish Bean Soup is one we had on the first episode of our show. Theirs is delightful with Chorizo, Onion, Chickpeas, and warm spices.
We used our instant pot to create this version. It makes approximately eight servings.
Here is our recipe:
Ingredients:
White Potatoes Diced - 6 potatoes
Water - 8 Cups
Dry Garbanzo Beans - 1-lb Package
White Onion Diced - 1 whole onion
Diced Carrots - 4 whole
Diced Celery - 4 stalks
Diced Jalapeño - 1 Whole
Minced Garlic - 6 Cloves
Smoked Paprika - 2 Tablespoons
Liquid Aminos - 4 Tablespoons
Chopped Fresh Kale - Half of a 16-ounce bag
Directions:
Combine all ingredients except kale in the instant pot. Set the instant pot on high and cook for one hour. Release valve and depressurize instant pot. Add kale. Turn back on low for 20 minutes. Then divide equally among eight bowls and enjoy. Or divide among containers to store for the week for lunch or dinner.
DRINK
Monday, February 22nd, was National Margarita Day. So, we share our own Pineapple Jalapeños Margarita recipe to honor this day!
Ingredients (Serves 2)
Silver Tequila - 2 ounces
Cointreau - 1 ounce
Pineapple Juice - 2 ounces
Lime Juice - 1 ounce
Sliced Fresh Jalapeños - 4 (2 are for muddling and two are for garnish)
Sliced Lime Wedges - 2 for garnish
Jalapeño Simple Syrup (1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, one additional jalapeño halved from those listed above)
Directions
Make Jalapeño Simple Syrup before mixing drink by bringing 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to a boil on high heat. Remove from heat and add jalapeño. Allow to steep in the mixture for a few minutes before preparing the remainder of the ingredients.
Combine all the rest of the ingredients in a shaker with ice and 1 ounce of the Jalapeño Simple Syrup. Shake for a few seconds and strain into two different glasses over ice. Serve with a lime wedge.

5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode 110: Bringing RunDisney Home
Thursday Jun 16, 2022
Thursday Jun 16, 2022
It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
Next up is an excellent interview with a fellow podcaster, Mike Rahlmann, and an interview with Erick Kanter from Expedition Roasters, all in the same episode!
RUN
We have a special interview with Be Our Guest Podcast host, Mr. Mike Rahlmann. His podcast is an excellent resource for those who travel to Walt Disney World or participate in RunDisney events. He talks about some great RunDisney race memories that will help us get through this time when we can’t be at Disney crossing that finish line for the Star Wars Rival Run Challenge.
EAT
Mike also helped us out with the eating portion of our show! He talks about some great meals that he likes to get at Disney for pre-race and post-race meals. He has done the Dopey Challenge for several years and proves that the carb-loading meal does not have to be pasta. Although there are great Italian options on the property, Mike loves Olivia’s at Old Key West Resort. That buttermilk fried chicken and the staff there make it all worthwhile! We must check it out at the next race!
Thank you so much to Mike for spending time talking Disney with us!! You should check out his podcast and if you are looking to plan a Disney vacation when all of this has passed, check out the Magic For Less Travel, where he is a senior agent. Fill out a no-obligation quote and mention that you heard about it from the podcast so he can help you plan a fantastic trip!
DRINK
We are so excited to bring you Erick Kanter, owner of Expedition Roasters. Erick talks with us about their coffee (although they make tea and cocoa, too!). The coffee brings a bit of Disney home through theme, story, art, and great flavor. Prospector’s Roast tastes just like a churro you’d get at our favorite theme park. 5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode 128: A Conversation with Chef Art Smith
Tuesday Jun 14, 2022
Tuesday Jun 14, 2022
It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
Next up is an interview with the one and only Chef Art Smith!
RUN
This week we complete the RunDisney Virtual Race Series with the Haunted Mansion 5K! Yes, we talk about the weather, but we are also without the medals, so we can’t wait until they arrive! It was a different summer race series because we couldn’t travel up to Walt Disney World to do it, but for Aimee, working from home, it was a chance to get outside and get some fresh air ahead of the afternoon summer showers. For Dana, it was motivation to get his running done on a long work weekend.
This week, we are connected to Walt Disney World and running unique races virtually because we had the honor and pleasure of talking with Chef Art Smith! He has two fantastic restaurants at Disney Springs, but he has also run marathons and took us on his storied running journey as we talked with him. Although he hasn’t run a race at Walt Disney World, he was in the Magic Kingdom College Program, now known as the Walt Disney World College Program, in 1981. We recorded this interview in the third week of April 2020, when we would have been running the Rival Run Weekend at Walt Disney World. Chef Art helped us bring a little bit of Disney home!
EAT
Chef Art Smith has appeared on the Food Network on shows like Chopped and is famed for being Oprah Winfrey’s personal chef. He has also authored books like Back to the Table and Kitchen Life: Real Food for Real Families and Back to the Family. Chef Art Smith is a two-time James Beard Foundation award winner with restaurants in Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, Washington, D.C., and many more. He’s been on television shows like Top Chef Masters and The Today Show. Talking with him about his excellent restaurants and amazing southern comfort food made our mouths water!
DRINK
Chef Art Smith has some great beverages at his restaurants. He has Moonshine at Homecomin’ in Disney Springs, and we want to get to his Atlanta restaurant, Southern Art and Bourbon Bar, for some fantastic bourbon-based cocktails, too, when it reopens. It was great to get a little bit of the story and inspiration behind some of the signature cocktails at his restaurants.
He is also generous in giving back to the community. He started Common Threads, an organization that teaches families the joy of healthy cooking. This summer, they even have a virtual summer camp for kids with activities they can do at home.
Chef Art Smith was so generous with his time. We can’t thank him enough for spending time with us and inspiring us with great stories from his running and life as an award-winning chef.

5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode #21 The Mebisode
Saturday Jun 11, 2022
Saturday Jun 11, 2022
It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
Next up a big interview with a friend of the show, Meb Keflezighi!
RUN
Last weekend, we participated in the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic. One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was interviewing Meb Keflezighi, who is an inspiration to us. He is the only man to win a silver medal in the Olympics (Athens 2004), win NYC Marathon (2009), and win the Boston Marathon (2014). Watching his success was inspiring to us, but even more than that, his humility and the way he lives his life with faith, family, and education as top priorities is a key reason he inspires those around him. He also has a foundation and through it helps support and encourage people with goals in much the same way he was supported by his family, his faith, and the community around him. We interviewed him at the Expo and wanted to bring you that interview in its entirety.
We will feature the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic, Kojak’s House of Ribs, and Tampa Bay Brewing Company in a full episode later this week.
THAT’S A WRAP!
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe and rate us in iTunes. We would love to hear your feedback or about places we should feature in upcoming episodes. You can follow us as we accomplish, explore, and indulge on our website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.

Next up, RED Episode #28: Local Beer Collabs & Lazy Wings at Nice Guys 5th Anniversary (although this year they just celebrated #9!)
Nice Guys Pizza is a place we have talked about, and we have shot Quick Bites from on several occasions. This week, they celebrate their 5th anniversary. We are so honored and humbled to have been some of their first customers. If you are ever in our hometown, you need to stop by this fantastic hole-in-the-wall pizza place with delicious food (not just pizza), unique cocktails, and tasty craft beer. For the next several episodes, we will feature cocktails, beer, and outstanding food from this place close to our hearts.
Greg and Jovana, the owners of this great pizza joint, welcomed us, made us feel at home, and gave us support through some of the happiest, most challenging, and emotional times in our lives. This is like a second home to us. To you, it may be the same thing. Or we may be introducing you to this very special place. Either way, everyone needs to experience the great food and terrific people who make up the Nice Guys Family.
This episode demonstrates the connections that Nice Guys Pizza has in the local craft beer community. They collaborated with five regional breweries to create unique beers to tap for their anniversary. By the time we air this episode, they may be gone. Still, they demonstrate how awesome the craft beer community is in Southwest Florida and how we can’t wait to feature them in an upcoming episode, even if we have featured them in previous ones.
The anniversary draft list includes:
Fort Myers Brewing Company Birthday Cake Porter
Point Ybel Brewing Company Pendennis the Menace
Bury Me Brewing Company DDH Nenzit Russian Imperial
Momentum Brewhouse Death Before Sour Mix
Big Top Brewing Company Unicorn Tears
And finally, in this Quick Bite, we feature the Lazy Wings. Truly genius, these wings include a sauce with everything you need, with no sides or dipping sauces required.
Stay tuned throughout this week and next for Quick Bites and an entire episode featuring great food and beverages from Nice Guys Pizza. They mean so much to us that we can't help but celebrate them for a whole week of Quick Bites and our episode featuring the Cape Cops 5k!

Next up, a chat with someone who gave us some of the most authentic Mexican cuisine we have ever had and in the most unexpected place, Kentucky! Marcos Valdes!
Welcome to Quick Bite #73!
In this Quick Bite, Aimee gets a few minutes with Marcos Valdes, Chef-Owner of Papi's Mexican Restaurant and Bar.
While we ran the Bluegrass, Marcos was busy running around the restaurant, making drinks, checking on food quality, mentoring employees, and spending time with guests! The restaurant, located in an upstairs spot just a few blocks off the UK campus, has only been open for about eight months but the food, much of which comes from family recipes, tastes like it's been perfected over many, many years.
We started with the house chips and salsa. The chips were warm, and the house salsa was fresh, with a slight heat and smokiness of chile d'arbol. We had an appetizer created by Marcos', a crock filled with poblano pepper and onion, with a rich cream sauce and baked with queso fresco. It's served with flour tortillas for dipping or making "messy tacos," and it is worth a trip back to Kentucky just for that! Marcos said the Street Tacos were his most popular item, and after having them, we can see why! Soft, doubled-up corn tortillas topped with beef, chicken, pork, or...hibiscus? Yep, Papi's has some fantastic vegetarian and vegan options as well.
If Papi's is this good just eight months in, we can't wait to see what the future holds.

If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
Next up is another special interview with Jeff Galloway about hot weather running. We thought: It's summer, it's hot, it's humid, and we have a great coach whose timeless tips will get us through this part of our training season no matter the year.
RUN
We are privileged to help celebrate our running coach’s 75th birthday this week! Jeff Galloway, America’s Coach and ours, turns 75 on July 12th! There is no way we could ever thank him for the inspiration, expertise, support, friendship, and love he has shown us. We are so lucky to have him on the show this week.
First, we want to tell everyone about his 75th Birthday Challenge. There are many ways to help him celebrate. You can do 75 miles in July, 7.5 miles on July 12th, 75 laps around a track or 1/4-mile segments, or a 75-lap relay. You get an official race number and website to log your miles and an e-certificate for completing your challenge!
Second, of course, we want to share his expertise. The summer running season is upon us, and we need to run safely when we are outside. The dramatic rise in heat and humidity requires us to train smart. Jeff shares tips and tricks for combating the heat and being successful in the heart of the summer.
Here’s a link to his article recapping his tips for running in the heat.
If you are looking for a virtual race, we have a discount code for the Virtual Pace Series website to offer everyone in the Runcation Nation. Use RUNEATDRINK10 at their website to get 10% off any event! We will be doing one soon!
EAT
Dunedin is a town that we were able to visit when we were away in Clearwater visiting family last month. We were introduced to Dunedin Brewery during the Fit Foodie Run on Episode 14 of our show. Their brewery is so beautiful. It looks like a castle set back in the Medieval Times. There is seating indoors, the tanks where they brew their delicious beer, and well-shaded outdoor seating. We had Fried Pretzel Bites with Brown Ale Mustard and Beer Cheese. They were so tasty. The pretzel was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside with just the right amount of salt. The mustard was tangy, and the beer cheese was warm, melty, and just the right amount of bite in flavor.
DRINK
Dunedin Brewery also has terrific beer. We had the Apricot Peach and the air. Pilsner. They were full of flavor, light, crisp, and refreshing for a hot summer day. Both were inexpensive at $6 and $5 for a 16-ounce pour, and they were sessionable offerings at 6.2 and 4.2 ABV. Stay awhile! We wanted to have much more of their beer menu.

5th Anniversary Flashback RED Episode 4: Run Walk Run with Jeff Galloway
Friday Jun 03, 2022
Friday Jun 03, 2022
It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
Next up is our very first BIG interview on the show and the first time we talked with Olympian and America’s Coach, Jeff Galloway.
Welcome back to Run Eat Drink Podcast!
In this episode, I want to share the method I use for races of all distances. I discovered his method in January 2011, when I ran my first half marathon at Walt Disney World. I was an inexperienced runner who found a book online with a running schedule, tried to follow it, and headed to the race. Mistakes were made. I would describe that experience as painful and a real struggle, although I crossed the finish line with my husband and accomplished the goal. At the race expo, Jeff gave a motivational talk about his method. He talked about taking walk breaks so you can finish strong. Those walk breaks are short, 30 seconds or less, and protect you from running out of gas at the end of the race. He said it does not matter whether you are trying to qualify for Boston or complete your first race. You can use this method to pass others at the end, finish with a smile, and still have the energy to celebrate afterward.
When we got home and started to train for our next race, his words were in the back of my mind. I researched and found that he had a whole program and that there was "an app for that" from LoloFit. It gives you a training plan based on your goal and a recommended ratio for running and walking. Jeff's voice tells you when to run and when to walk and drops in occasionally with motivation and encouragement to keep going during the workouts. I cannot tell you what a difference it made in training, motivation, and performance. I became one of his e-coach clients and have been an avid supporter ever since!
On Sunday, August 6th, 2017, America's Coach and Olympian Jeff Galloway hosted a 3-hour running school in Orlando, Florida, at the Track Shack. This gave me an excellent opportunity to share what his method is all about and why it works. It was such a great experience, and afterward, we sampled some tasty food and beverages right around the corner at Santiago's Bodega.
Jeff took the time to do an interview with us, and he gave us so much great information, so we are breaking up his interview into three separate podcast episodes. This is the first part of his chat with us. Jeff talks about the history of the run-walk-run method and how he became "America's Coach." In part two, we will explore the science behind the technique, and in the final part of his interview with us, Jeff shares resources for anyone who wants to use his run-walk-run method.
Special thanks to the Orlando Track Shack, Jeff Galloway, and Santiago's Bodega for allowing us to film this episode. Here are some resources to find out more about his method and the delicious food and beverages we tried.

5th Anniversary Flashback: RED Episode 1: The Tampa Beer Run
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
Wednesday Jun 01, 2022
It's our 5th Anniversary this month. As part of the celebration, we will post flashback episodes all month long to celebrate and say thank you. If it were not for you, our Runcation Nation community, we would not have had this show for the last five years, had some of the most amazing experiences, and created lasting friendships in this community.
First up, The Tampa Beer Run. Just a spoiler, your host is a huge dork!
Hey, Everyone! Welcome to our first episode, where we head to Tampa, Florida, for the Tampa Beer Run. Yes, we get to sample beer on the course, but more importantly, this run raises funds for My Hope Chest, which helps women pay for reconstructive surgery after their courageous battles with breast cancer. After the run, we need to refuel, and what better way than to sample Tampa on a plate at the Columbia Restaurant. Our final stop on this trip is Cigar City Brewing, where you can spot the rolling of cigars and a long line of tasty beer on tap, and ours is just a sampling of their libations. For more information, check out the show notes below.
MY HOPE CHEST
Connect with My Hope Chest at their website and learn about their upcoming 5K Glow Run in April 2018, also in the Tampa area.
AL LOPEZ PARK
This is a beautiful park that is flat and easy race. There was no time limit or specific pace per mile you needed to adhere to, so this race is great for beginners or run/walkers.
TAMPA BEER RUN ON FACEBOOK
We paid a reasonable entry fee of $45 and added a VIP ticket for $12 more to get a couple of extra beers at the after-party, souvenir Tampa Beer Run glasses, and a white cotton t-shirt.
COLUMBIA RESTAURANT
This Tampa staple has been around since 1905, and we happened to sample these:
Crab Croquette
Spanish Bean Soup
1905 Salad
Cuban Sandwich
CIGAR CITY BREWING
At this brewery, there are some fantastic beers, and here is a list of a few we recommend:
Pollona! With Chocolate! Milk Stout with Chocolate
110K+OT Batch #9 Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Imperial Brown Ale
We've crossed the finish line!
Thank you for watching!! Join us next time as we run another destination race, sample tasty beverages, and refuel with delicious food. We hope this helps you preview some fantastic vacation or "runcation" destinations. If you have any that we should feature, please let us know on Instagram, Twitter, or our website, www.runeatdrink.net.
THAT'S A WRAP
As always, please drink responsibly by having a designated driver or rideshare like we do. Thank you for staying safe, Runcation Nation!

Last week, we talked about the Shamrock Marathon Weekend recommended to us by the Will Run For Podcast hosts. This week, we ran their Will Run For Virtually Live Race for the 2nd year in a row. It was a great time. Our fellow podcast hosts kicked it off at 10 AM via Instagram and then stayed with all of us via Zoom for the duration of our miles. The race swag was even better than last year. These podcasting runners have created a great community and a fun virtual race for all runners.

EAT
Egg Bistro in Virginia Beach was recommended to us by Diana of the Will Run For Podcast. Her recommendation was a home run! It was so hard to choose from all the fantastic offerings on the menu. We got Benny and the Grits, Banana Bread French Toast, and Chicken and Waffles. Yum! They even have brunch beverages to go with their tasty food. This place was so busy! We tasted why!
DRINK
Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii is tucked in what looks like a cute tiny home. But inside, it is a happening coffee shop. With smoothies and coffee drinks that hit the spot, we are so happy to report that Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii has locations throughout the country so that you can sample their tasty breakfast beverages, too.

Shamrock Marathon Weekend in Virginia Beach was a great race. We were lucky enough to meet up with fellow podcasters, have dinner with a great member of the Runcation Nation we met through the Extra Mile Podcast group on Facebook, and run a PR in the 8K since our last attempt at Gasparilla Distance Classic. At the expo, we had a surprise, Bart Yasso!! He announced our race as well. He is famous for his work at Runner’s World and the Yasso 800s. You may have heard him on our show on Episodes 154, 155, 156, and 187 when we returned to the Anchorage RunFest and got to sit down with him in person.
EAT
Chix on the Beach was right next door to our hotel. It had a fantastic beach view from its patio, tasty seafood, and excellent service! We had the She Crab Soup, Crab Dip, and a Steamer of shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes. We finished the meal with Key Lime Pie. Shout out to Samantha, our server, who was patient on a night when the restaurant was at capacity, thorough, kind, and had excellent recommendations from the menu throughout the entire meal. If you get a chance to run this race weekend, stay on the beach and try this place out. We strongly encourage you to call and make a reservation because this is one happening spot!
DRINK
Smartmouth Brewing Company was a great time with the Will Run For Podcast crew. They have a theme that captured our hearts. While we only had their nonalcoholic offering, Jimmy’s Grandpappy’s Sparkling Lemonade, our fellow podcast hosts tried some tasty offerings from Smartmouth like Relinquish My Waffle Brown Ale and Safety Dance German Pilsner. We can’t wait to return to this Virginia Beach location and try both during next year's race weekend. The crew said they were mighty tasty!
THAT’S A WRAP!

RUN
This week, we recap our experience at the Black Knight DONNA Mother’s Day 5K from expo to after-party celebration! We talk about the brand-new DONNA 5K route through Jacksonville’s beautiful Riverside neighborhood, starting and ending at the historic Friday Musicale. In addition to a beautiful race day, we heard one of our favorite race announcers on the mic, Fitz Koehler, one half of Team Noisy! We got our hands on the medal and shirt design we talked about in Episode 207 with Amanda Napolitano a few weeks ago, too. It was such a great race, where we met so many that The DONNA Foundation has helped and supported. We would do it again and recommend it highly!

EAT
Vale Food Co in Jacksonville was a great option after completing our race on Saturday. This is a build-your-own bowl (or choose from their menu options if you can’t decide) style meal with plant-based options and meat, dairy, acai bowls, and toast creations, too! It felt like a very "brunchy" and quick option for us. While they don’t have mimosas, they have flavored healthy water, cold-pressed juice shots, coffee, handmade lemonade, and more to quench your thirst. We built our bowls, and they were delicious! Vale Food Co is a great little place in Jacksonville, and they have locations throughout Florida, too! (Tip: Get the Sweet Potato Noodles. They don’t taste like sweet potato, and they are excellent with anything they offer!)

DRINK
We went to Wildcrafters Booze-Free Bar near the Five Points area of Jacksonville, and boy, are we happy we did! Live music, a relaxing vibe, and the owner and bartender were terrific to everyone during our visit. The drinks we had were fun spins on coffee drinks and non-alcoholic cocktail creations that were quite tasty! We were so happy with the experience and can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu at Wildcrafters Booze-Free Bar. We got to have a great experience celebrating our race while being alcohol-free, too!

Congratulations to John Schroeder, who invited us to do our weekend coffee chat from his Cars and Coffee event at Innisbrook Resort. Susie, JoJo, and Darlene took their runcation to Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby Mini Marathon this past weekend. They celebrated JoJo’s big birthday in true “Runcation Nation” fashion with excellent running, eating, and drinking! Darlene carried her running into Sunday when she completed the Flying Pig Half Marathon in Ohio. Kelly from our crew ran it, too! Way to get it done, ladies!

RUN
This week, we share our “noisy” interview with race announcer and half of Team Noisy, cancer survivor, runner, inspiration, and author, Fitz Koehler.
We want to thank Fitz for the inspiring conversation in this episode. We hope you will give her book a listen or a read. It is so valuable. You will find the wisdom to help you, no matter where you are in life or what challenge you may be facing at the moment.
You can get it on her website, and she will autograph it for you! And, if you want to connect with Fitz, as she said in the chat, say hi and introduce yourself. Let her know you heard her on the Run Eat Drink Podcast. Links are here:

Fitz, if you are reading this now, thank you. Those words seem too small to express our appreciation for all the race experiences you create for all runners and the time you took to inspire the rest of the “Runcation Nation" and us on this week’s episode. We can’t wait to see you again at a finish line soon!
EAT & DRINK
As we like to do on our show when we have a special interview episode, we asked Fitz to tell us her favorite food and beverage options when we talked to her. Did they surprise you? Do you love the same things she does? Let us know!
