RUN
The Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend is upon us! This week, we look at the courses for each race coming up this weekend. The 5K, 10K, and half marathon races at the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend are ones we look forward to each year because this race weekend is one that started our love for running. Indeed, our training wasn’t what it should have been, but we will have fun and be with people who inspire and refuel us for the race weekends to come.
EAT AND DRINK
Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, we have a preview of one of our favorite booths from this year: The Saucy Swine. It could be because this one appeals to our southern roots. I mean, pimento cheese is the caviar of the south. We love it! Also: Bourbon, bacon, and a Bloody Mary in an adorable souvenir mason jar? Yes, please! It was a great booth to stop and sample some tasty food and beverage from the 2022 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.
THAT’S A WRAP!

RUN
While we had to defer Rock ‘n’ Roll Clearwater to 2023 due to the hurricane, we were still on track as far as our training goes. We talk about how we are coming back from the hurricane and preparing for our next scheduled race, the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend in November. In addition, back before the hurricane, we wanted to discuss this… news from D23 that the Disneyland races will return in 2024! What do we expect the experience to be like in terms of the registration process, the weekend itself, and the medals? We are hoping it will be epic, but most of all… that we can get into the race weekend.
EAT
The end of September brings National Lobster Day each year. We love lobster, so we thought we’d take a look back at some great lobster dishes we’ve had in the history of our show, plus a return to a favorite place to celebrate.
Quick Bite #80: Listener Recommendation at DJ’s Clam Shack (Famous Lobster Roll)
Episode #87: 2019 Wine and Dine Half Marathon & Dana’s Picks from Epcot Food & Wine Festiva (Lobster Roll at Hops & Barley Booth)
Episode #105: Keep Accomplishing, Exploring, and Indulging with Us Virtually (Our favorite lobster roll from a local food truck Mobstah Lobstah)
Episode #125: A Training Run At Walt Disney World and a Peek at Some 2020 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Offerings (Citrus Blossom Booth Half Lobster Tail... Yum!)
Episode #138: We had a great dinner at the Fish Tale Grill We split a Captain’s platter with shrimp cocktail, snow crab, stone crab, king crab, lobster tail, and clams plus so much more! It came with cocktail sauce, drawn butter, and a creamy mustard dip. The meat was briny and juicy. The sauces complemented the seafood so well.
We took a trip to Mobstah Lobstah while they were staged in Sarasota at Calusa Brewing celebrate this non-holiday holiday. This food truck never disappoints. Their lobster rolls are restaurant-quality dishes that all should try, as we have said before each time we have talked about their food on the show. This was the way to celebrate. But they also have other delicious seafood dishes, too, proving that they are, as Dana would say, not just a “one-trick pony.” If you come down to Florida for races and see this truck, don’t think, just walk up, wait in the line they usually have, and order. You will not be sorry!
DRINK
Calusa Brewing is located in Sarasota, a little over an hour from us. This is where Mobstah Lobstah was over the weekend prior to Hurricane Ian, and we hadn’t checked this place out. So, we took a day trip up to Sarasota, and we were so pleased with the variety of brews, the space, the staff, and the experience. Calusa Brewing gives back to the community, and we always love to see that. The brewery was hosting a fundraiser for the Apple A Day Foundation, an organization that helps improve quality of life for children as they battle cancer. In lieu of flights, they offer short pours and pints. We loved the strategy because we could sample responsibly.

JoJo, Darlene, and Fitz are at the Detroit Free Press Race Weekend. Congratulations to JoJo for all the hard work she put forward and the money she raised for St. Jude. She is a SuperGirl, Superwoman, and more! Congratulations to Darlene for continuing her 50 States quest. Fitz, we are so excited for them to experience this race with you on the mic and your fantastic playlist.
We know there have been so many others completing milestones and races in the past couple of weeks and we’ve missed helping you celebrate because of the hurricane, but we are cheering for you from here and know that we want to celebrate with you.

RUN
We are so sad that the Rock and Roll Clearwater Half was canceled. We were looking forward to seeing Jennifer Hall and other members of the Runcation Nation at that race. We will have to look forward to that in 2023! In the meantime, we are using the cleanup from Hurricane Ian as cross-training as we look forward to better days during Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Donna Marathon Weekend, and the Gasparilla Distance Classic in the coming months.
EAT
We have seen so many local restaurants and food trucks that have been feeding our community as we recover from Hurricane Ian. We have to shout out Nice Guys Pizza, Fort Myers Brewing, and Viet Yum just to name a few. We saw a Publix parking lot filled with local food trucks supporting our city and the barrier islands that suffered the greatest amount of damage and devastation. We appreciate everyone who was able to do this for all of the people who needed support and help through this traumatic event.
DRINK
Lexington Brewing Company has always been a favorite of ours. This week, we try Lexington Brewing Company Pumpkin Barrel Ale live on the show. This one packs a punch at 10% ABV, and it has all the flavors of the fall season. With lower carbonation, a heavier body, and the orange hue of fall leaves, this beer has subtle flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg. We enjoyed it.

Wednesday Sep 28, 2022
Good morning all! As we record this it's about 5:00 Am EDT. We are no longer in the "Cone of Uncertainty," but rather the "Cone of ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY" as we brace for the impact of Hurricane Ian.
We wanted to take a moment to send this out while we still have power and internet. Thank you to EVERYONE who has reached out to us to check on us. We can't thank you enough for your concern.
Aimee and I have taken all necessary steps to prepare for the storm and secure our home. We are riding it out in the area and know what to expect.
We anticipate power and internet interruptions starting later today and it could last for some time afterward. As soon as we are able to post an update here and on our social media, we will.
To everyone else in the path of the storm, please be careful and stay safe. We look forward to being able to accomplish, explore, and indulge with you all really soon.

RUN
We are two weeks away from the LIVE Inaugural Rock N Roll Clearwater Half Marathon! This week we talk about the taper, the last long training run, strength training, hydration, and a tough thing for most of us to do at the end of the training cycle and that 4-letter word, REST.
EAT
Viet Yum is a local food truck here in Southwest Florida. We checked out some of their new dishes while they were out at Fort Myers Brewing Company. Their Vietnamese and Cajun heritage is evident in every tasty bite! Get the Saigon Wings when they are on special. You won’t be sorry.
DRINK
Fort Myers Brewing Company was recently voted 2022 Best Brewery in Southwest Florida this past summer. We decided to go out and celebrate with them and sample their new offering, Lime to Me. It was refreshing and delicious in this hot Florida weather. All of their tasty brews are great to toast their accomplishment!

RUN
Bill and Kristina Craig, founders of Medal Chasers, have been on our show. We are big fans of running their virtual races as training runs to stay motivated during training season and support a great cause. Part of our long run this weekend focused on one of the anti-heroes from previously released Medal Chasers Anti-Hero series, Wolverine. We were so excited to do the “Now It’s My Turn” 5K to support Shriners Hospital for Children. As always, the bling did not disappoint. Right now, there are some fun virtual races offered on their connected to Star Wars and so much more!
And just for the Runcation Nation, they have a discount code. Runcation15 gets you 15% off any order on the website
EAT
When we are on the road here in Florida, we love to discover late night bites for post-race celebrations or something tasty to get after being on the road all day. We love local spots that do comfort food classics right with creative spins on traditional dishes and sandwiches. This week, it is The Pint and Brew in Tampa, home of the Gasparilla Distance Classic and the next meetup of the Runcation Nation. This place has great grilled cheese and comforting tomato soup so you can dip like you did when you were a kid. There are other items on the menu like wings and salads, too, but our favorites: the vast menu of grilled cheese combinations.
DRINK
When you come to The Pint and Brew in Tampa, you will see a taplist that is 3 full chalkboards long and 28 offerings! It is a wide variety of styles and breweries from around the country. Cider? Lager? IPA? Yes, yes, and yes! There are seltzers and sours, too. There is something for everyone. We talk about some of our favorites from our visit, but since then, they have moved to some fall flavors we have got to get back and try, for sure!

This week we give a training update. We talk about our training plan, challenges due to the summer heat, and the bling we are looking forward to at our fall races.
We talk about different aspects of our training, like Cadence Drills, Acceleration Gliders, speed work, and the long runs in our program. You can find out all about our Coach Jeff Galloway's training plans at www.jeffgalloway.com.
EAT
This past week, we got to log some miles in Orlando and visit the Shula's Steak House location. What a great experience we had. It was one of our favorite meals, from the top-notch service to the appetizer and entree we enjoyed. We break it down on the show this week.
DRINK
Shula's Steak House also has a great cocktail menu. We had the New Fashioned and the Dark Cherry Smoked Manhattan. That Manhattan provided a show, and both beverages were delicious! We are fans of bourbon, and these two options did not disappoint, although if you are a fan of a different spirit, the menu has something for you, too!

She lost her left leg below the knee, and that event profoundly impacted her life. Adrianne is a professional runner, advocate for amputee rights, and motivational speaker. Her passion and positivity set an example for anyone facing tough challenges in life.
Last April, she ran the Boston Marathon with the 2017 New York City Marathon Champion Shalane Flanagan. We talk with her about her experiences leading up to and training with Shalane on this week’s show.
She has many lessons and tips in this conversation that are valuable to anyone pursuing a tough challenge or goal. Take this one on a long run with you for sure!
EAT & DRINK
We were all thinking about brunch when we started our interview with Adrianne over our Sunday morning coffee. She mentioned a diner we should all go to if we ever venture up to Salem, Massachusetts. It’s called The Ugly Mug Diner. You should check out their menu of food and beverages at uglymugdiner.com. It had us thinking of brunch and how we must get up there and try it soon!
Adrianne shares tips and tools to fuel well during training later in our conversation. Are you wondering about those Superhero muffins? She refers to recipes from Run Fast. Eat Slow by Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopecky. You can find it in print: https://amzn.to/3JSjVfX or a Kindle edition here: https://amzn.to/3A0occr. Adrianne also discusses running fueling and hydration options from Maurten. Check out their products at maurten.com.
Find her website at adriannehaslet.com and follow her on Instagram at @adriannehaslet. Watch her Instagram stories for links to her all-new merchandise, including one of our favorite things, a coffee mug!
THAT’S A WRAP!
Stay tuned next week for part 2 of our conversation with Adrianne! We get into her 2022 Boston Marathon race day and the best places to celebrate the accomplishment!

RUN
The Anchorage RunFest is one of our favorite race weekends. While we can’t go this year, we wanted the Runcation Nation to hear from their voluntary crew about this fun weekend and why it should be on your list of must-do races. There are pre-race events like a movie night to kick off this fun weekend and an easy-to-navigate expo. Saturday’s events include a Women’s, Men’s, Military, and Community Mile, and the pasta feed with one of our favorite speakers and Marathon World Record Holder for double amputees, Marko Cheseto. Sunday’s longer events start in the heart of downtown Anchorage and showcase some of the great trails of this city. This weekend has something for everyone!
Rebecca from the Anchorage RunFest social media team sat down with us to talk about the weekend and why Anchorage is a city everyone should visit during this running festival.
For more information, visit www.anchoragerunfest.org and stay tuned to their social media on Facebook (@anchoragerunfest) and Instagram (@anchoragerunfest).
EAT & DRINK
Rebecca recommended some great food and beverage and reminded us of some great places we explored on our trips to Anchorage for this great weekend.
Rebecca’s recommendations and some of ours from past trips:
Tent City Taphouse is a place that honors the rich history of Anchorage, formerly known as Tent City. Some great menu items include Alaskan Halibut Fish and Chips, plus rotating taps highlighting local brews.
Fat Ptarmigan - Rebecca recommended this one, and we will have to put it on our list to try next time. We saw a reindeer sausage and pepper sandwich as well as offering local ciders, beer, and nonalcoholic offerings.
Crow’s Nest at The Hotel Captain Cook - An upscale dining experience to celebrate your accomplishment! Get a reservation for this one! Did we mention they have Alaskan King Crab? One of Aimee’s favorites!
Glacier Brewhouse - We were so happy she recommended this one because we went on our first trip and talked about the tasty food in Episode 77! We also talk about their brews from our return trip in 2021 on Episode 188!
Moose’s Tooth is one Rebecca talked about right along with the theater serving the same great menu. We got to have their great pizza as well as share Matanuska Brewpub on Episode 76.
Midnight Sun Brewing Company is one we talked about on Episode 187 that has outstanding variety in their brews and a kitchen putting out tasty bites, too!
Anchorage Distillery is an excellent place for cocktails and that cozy Anchorage vibe. We talk about their spirits and beverages in Episode 181.
SPECIAL OFFER FROM ANCHORAGE RUNFEST
Thanks so much, Rebecca, for the great conversation about this year’s Anchorage RunFest. We can’t wait to get back there soon! If anyone is still looking at the weekend, Rebecca and Melanie from the team that puts it all together got us a couple of race discount codes to share:
Code 2022ARFRUNEAT gets you $10 off the following races: 49K, Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay.
Code 2022ARFRUNEAT5K gets you $5 off the 5K Race

RUN: Earn the Right with Dave McGillivray
In this special edition of our show, we talk with a legend in the running community, Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray. It was an honor and privilege we have wanted for a long time. We are so happy to bring our talk with him to the Runcation Nation this week.
When you go to davemcgillivray.com, you are met with the words, “Dream Big. Finish Strong.” We find this mantra throughout Dave McGillivray’s life. From his storied run across the US in 1978 to benefit the Jimmy Fund to his time as Boston Marathon Race Director beginning in the 1980s, he has found a way to marry both his passions for running and philanthropy. We recently read his book, The Last Pick: The Boston Marathon Race Director’s Road to Success. We know he will fire you up like he did when we talked with him. You can’t help but get motivated just hearing him tell these stories from his book and life.

EAT
Cigar City Brewing was the first brewery we featured on our show five years ago. Since National Chicken Wing Day is today, we are bringing you a VIDEO Quick Bite of some unique wings from Cigar City Brewing’s food menu. This dish has been a most welcome addition. Five years ago, when we first visited, they did not have a food menu! They have expanded their taproom and created a great menu to pair with their flavorful brews. Today, we present a dish we hope to recreate one day: Cuban Buffalo Wings. A yummy way to celebrate this day!

While we are recovering from our travel bug, we thought we’d put a flashback to a great interview with Bill and Kristina Craig of Medal Chasers!
Don’t forget the generous discount code they gave us to celebrate our podcast anniversary. It is still good! Their virtual races support great causes and help keep you motivated to train in these hot summer months! The code “runcation15” gets you 15% off anything on the Medal Chasers site!
Here are the show notes from the episode, initially released in April 2021:
RUN
This week we talk to Bill and Kristina Craig, founders of Medal Chasers! They help provide some of our favorite virtual races, medals, and bibs. This week they talk about their new Anti-Hero Race Series. What’s an Anti-Hero? Which one is your favorite? We talk about that and more awesome virtual races on the horizon from Medal Chasers.
Don’t forget about the great discount code they have given us. The code “runcation15” gets you 15% off anything on the Medal Chasers site! Good through May 31, 2021, check out Medal Chasers and all the fun virtual races they have to keep you motivated and support great causes, too!
EAT
At the beginning of the pandemic, this time last year, we visited the Mobstah Lobstah Food Truck. It instantly became a favorite. We can return to it a year later and review a dish we had for the first time this year: Lobster Mac and Cheese. Yes, get it if you are in the Southwest Florida area. You won’t regret it. It is worth the wait and the price. Mobstah Lobstah is restaurant-quality goodness! We are dreaming about having it again. We’re not waiting a whole year this time! Mobstah Lobstah, you rock!
DRINK
Scotty’s Bierwerks just turned 4 this past weekend and had a great Breakfast Blonde release. Coffee-flavored beer? Yes, please! We’ve had their beer on the show before but wanted to celebrate this limited release and talk about a favorite of theirs that is always on tap, the Irish Red. Happy anniversary, Scotty’s Bierwerks. Here’s to many more!
THAT’S A WRAP! - Here’s hoping you are off to a great year in 2021!

Run Eat Drink Podcast Hydration Series Part 1: Gatorade
Saturday Jul 23, 2022
Saturday Jul 23, 2022
DRINK
This summer, we are training for our fall races. As the humidity climbs, so does the need to test hydration options out there and find the ones that will work best on long training runs and the course when the big day arrives. We all need options that won’t test our gut out there on the run, and as the saying goes, “Don’t try anything new on race day.”
First up: We take to the Tampa Riverwalk and test out a classic: Gatorade. With 180 calories, 22 carbohydrates, 50 milligrams of potassium, and 160 milligrams of sodium, we took this 28-ounce bottle out for a spin. In this video, we share our thoughts with you.

RUN
Jeff Galloway is our coach, an Olympian, and America’s Coach. He has introduced generations to his run-walk-run method and helped them finish strong no matter the distance or level of experience. That includes us. Since it began, we have been doing his race weekend in Atlanta, Georgia. It is a beautiful weekend full of positivity, encouragement from others who use his method, and a fantastic finish line experience with the man himself.
Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend is moving to a spring race in 2023! We got all the information first-hand from Jeff Galloway himself. He sat down with us and gave us an exclusive interview about what to expect and why the move happened, plus some other great conversation as we head into just about a year since his heart attack. We are so happy to have the chance to have him back on the show.
Find out more about everything Jeff discussed, including the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend, here:
Thank you, Jeff! You know you are like family to us, and we can’t wait to experience your race weekend in March of 2023!
EAT
We have been to Atlanta several times for Jeff’s race, and Dana spent his college years there. So, we have an incredible back catalog of fantastic eats. Some of our favorites from past episodes include:
RED Episode #17 Flashback to Jeff Galloway Half Marathon 2017 (Wrecking Bar Brewpub)
RED Episode 195: Barb’s 5K at the 2021 Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend in Atlanta (Flying Biscuit)
RED Episode #46: Barb’s 5K at the JG 13.1 Half Marathon Weekend (Trader Vic’s)
DRINK
We had some great beverages from the Atlanta area while we were there during race weekends past. These include:
RED Episode #47: 2018 Jeff Galloway Half Marathon (Wrecking Bar Brewpub)
RED Quick Bite #92: Dana’s Facebook Live from Orpheus Brewing in Atlanta
RED Quick Bite #94: VIDEO: Head Brewer Joe McInTyre from Scofflaw Brewing in Atlanta

RUN
Richard’s Father’s Day Family Walk / Jog was along the Tampa Riverwalk on Father’s Day in June. This year is so special because we had two members of the Runcation Nation with us, Jessica and Kelly! This race benefits the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa and according to www.richardsrunforlife.org, “The money is earmarked for Moffitt. According to the American Cancer Society, one man out of six will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and one of 35 will die every year. Prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in American men, second only to lung cancer.”. The money raised this year is totaled over $150,000. We can’t thank Michael Kilgore from the Columbia Restaurant Group for helping us bring two members of our podcast community with us to participate in this fantastic event. While the weather was humid, the course was beautiful, people were so friendly, and the post-race celebration outside Ulele was great. There is another race hosted by this fabulous restaurant group called Richard’s Run. It is a nighttime race returning in the first week of November 2021. Go for the awesome food from this restaurant after the running is done, too! We enjoyed having a post-race chat with Tampa icon Richard Gonzmart and top-notch Brewmaster Tim Shackton.
EAT
Speaking of Ulele, we couldn’t help but return to this terrific Tampa location, steeped in the history of the city, and have some old favorites and explore new ones from the menu here. Get the steak sandwich if you have room after the alligator hush puppies, okra fries, and chargrilled oysters! Did we mention dessert? Yes, just get it all! Special shoutout to Billy who gave us outstanding service and even let Tim know we were there, so he could pop over and say hello.
DRINK
We can’t go to Ulele without having one of our all-time favorite beers to kick off the 6th year of our show, the Wedding Beer. It is described on the beer list as, “Wedding Beer – Traditional unfiltered lager infused with a light blend of natural black and red berries. Fruit balances with light malt in a delicate finish.” It is one we have to get, although the beer list is top-notch in a variety of flavors and styles, so there is something for everyone!

RUN
Then we celebrated our 5th anniversary, by running the Tampa Beer Run to benefit Humane Society of Tampa. It was a 5K inside of Al Lopez Park that offered four beer stops with local brews for us to try. It was a humid day but we finished in time to miss a morning rain shower! The course was flat and offered so much shade we always feel a bit jealous of every Tampa local who can use this park as a training ground. We got to meet cute dogs on the course and got a bonus beer at the after party. No medal, but a great pint glass and t-shirt have always been great souvenirs for this race. There was beer along with a DJ at the after party, all contained within the park. Every year this race proves to be a great time supporting a cause close to our hearts.
Beer was provided at the beer stops by the following breweries:
EAT
The Columbia Restaurant in the Ybor City area of Tampa, Florida was the site of our celebratory meal after the race. This was also the first restaurant we visited on the show. It is rich with Tampa history both in its decor and its menu. We were so happy to return and enjoy their classics: Crab Croquettes, Spanish Bean Soup, and a 1905 Salad. So good!! We love this place and everyone should eat here when visiting the Tampa area.
DRINK
Cigar City Brewing was the first brewery we featured on our show five years ago. Today we sample beer from their menu and explore their newly renovated location. Their beers are from a wide array of styles and they are still tasty! We are so glad that their beer is widely available in this state. It is a beautiful brewery in Tampa, and now they even have incredible food that we will feature at a later date!
