Thursday Feb 08, 2018
Special thanks to our sponsor, Health I.Q.! Health I.Q. celebrates the healthy choices people make by helping them find lower rates on life insurance. If you are a weightlifter, swimmer, yogi, runner, or cyclist, you could get rewarded for the healthy lifestyle you are living. A big thank you to them for sponsoring this week's show.
RUN
In this episode we show you what we do when we are off the road and training for upcoming races. During the week, there are strength training, yoga, swimming, and running days. This happens to be a day when we practice cadence drills. A running drill in Jeff Galloway's training programs at www.jeffgalloway.com, this drill helps you create quick turnover during run-walk-run intervals.
EAT
No, this week we are not indulging. We make spring rolls, which are a low-calorie snack or lunch option.
These spring rolls include:
Rice Paper Wrappers
Steamed Shrimp
Sliced Red Bell Pepper
Pre-Shredded Carrot
Sliced Hot House Cucumbers soaked in Rice Vinegar
Sliced Jalapeno
Cilantro Leaves
That is what was in our version, which was inspired by this recipe from Food Network .
DRINK
This week, instead of a cocktail or craft beer, we show you what we do to jazz up water to keep us hydrated. We add fruit to our water and often use no sodium sparkling water to vary up our beverages. To have more fun, we put the water in these Star Wars tikis from ThinkGeek.
THAT’S A WRAP!

RUN
Jeff Galloway 13.1 is a race that is near and dear to my heart because Jeff Galloway has been my run-walk-run coach for so many years. He and his wife Barbara are such genuine and supportive people who are passionate about running. Their beautiful half marathon and 5K courses support great causes like the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors and the Piedmont Dog Park as well as the Donna Foundation and Team 413. The half marathon course takes you through some of the best sights you can see in Atlanta. This year, the race was a challenge for me because I rolled my ankle before mile 1 and had to fight to finish. Next year, I will come back stronger and more careful than ever to highlight that beautiful course. It was a race that tested endurance, mental toughness, and dedication. The people on the course, especially the 4:30 pacers and that great group of ladies who finished just ahead of us and stayed to cheer us on, as well as Jeff at the finish, were wonderful to us and we can't thank them enough! Next year will be great!
EAT
The Wrecking Bar Brewpub is located in a renovated and historic space in Atlanta. The food we had - the corn pups - were incredible!
Wrecking Bar cheddarwurst, cornbread battered and fried, then served with curry ketchup & yellow mustard. Melt in your mouth tender meat and the sweetness of the cornbread along with the tart and tang of the dipping sauces... just incredible.
DRINK
The Wrecking Bar Brewpub has homemade ginger beer, lime, and bourbon in their Kentucky mule. It was perfect for bourbon lovers or anyone who likes a Moscow mule but is looking for a twist. Their drink menu is eclectic and beer selection is vast and has something for everyone, too.

A big thank you to them for sponsoring this week's show.
In this episode we run the first of two races in the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend.
RUN
The Double G is made up of two races: Barb’s 5k on Saturday and Jeff’s Half Marathon on Sunday. On Saturday it is a great 3.1 miles through Piedmont Park. There is such beautiful scenery and a dog park, which is one of my all-time favorite parts of the race. This one was so special this year because Barb met us and ran across the finish-line with us. It can be a cold one and we saw snow on the ground, but it is a great way to get a change from the scenery here in Florida.
EAT
The Expo for Jeff Galloway's Race Weekend is held at the Westin Peachtree. At the top of this beautiful hotel is the Sundial Restaurant. 72 floors up to be exact. The elevator ride alone is breathtaking. The food was great as you will see in our episode!
DRINK
Barbara Galloway partnered with Orpheus Brewing to give us a great party after the race. We got a custom-made glass with the logo from the brewery and the race and sampled four different beers from Orpheus Brewing. And since we love coffee, you know our favorite one featured a collaboration between the brewery and Java Lords Speciality Coffee Roasters.

RUN
This week we ran the 15th Annual Sarasota YMCA Ringling Bridge Run in Sarasota. The proceeds go to benefit a wonderful organization, the YMCA in Sarasota. It was a beautiful run over the water, included some hill work on the bridge, which is one of the only ways you can get hill work in Florida, and there was no time limit, so it was perfect to get back into the swing of things in 2018! Special thanks to Sarasota Police Department for keeping us safe on the course!
EAT
Our next stop was Yoder's Amish Restaurant, a famous spot for pie in Sarasota. They have an amazing breakfast, were featured on Man Vs. Food for their delicious friend chicken, but we were there for the world-famous pie. It was worth the wait!
DRINK
Our final stop this episode was Big Top Brewing Company. We got to try their Ringmaster, an award-wining Raspberry Berliner Weiss. It is a sour beer but delicious.

RED Episode 14: Fit Foodie Flashback December 2017
Wednesday Jan 10, 2018
Wednesday Jan 10, 2018
This is a flashback episode. We registered for the Fit Foodie 5K and planned to run it in September of 2017. Then Hurricane Irma had other plans and it got postponed to December 2017. If you all have been following me on social media, you know I had an injury during December as well as a crazy holiday schedule that delayed some of my podcasts. So this is a look back at a fun race where we met some amazing people.
RUN
The Fit Foodie 5K course had a long and tall bridge in Clearwater, so if this race series comes back and you need to practice some hills, it is a great one. The John Hancock Village with food and beverages afterward was a great time. If you are not local to Florida, they run this series all over the country. So be sure to check it out near you if it comes back next year!
CHARITY
We talked with Jessica Bomberg, Vice President for Peer-to-Peer Fundraising with No Kid Hungry. She talked about their amazing organization and what they do to fight childhood hunger. Please consider running next year, donating on their website, or volunteering to help their cause. (Not a paid advertisement, we just think what they do is great.)
EAT
Next we stopped by to see Rene Marquis cook some Cauliflower Fried Rice. It had Forbidden Rice, Tofu, Edamame, and more. The smell of the soy sauce and spices would have made your mouth water and it is healthy. It was a tasty dish and looked so easy to make!
DRINK
Next up, Dunedin Brewery and a chat with Mike Graff from sales and distribution. We tried an Apricot Peach American Wheat Beer they brought along and Mike helped us toast our accomplishment. It is one of the most established breweries in Florida, so if you are ever in town, check them out!

Tuesday Dec 26, 2017
Tuesday Dec 26, 2017
In this episode we run one of our all-time favorite races, the Superheroes Half Marathon at Disneyland in Anaheim California.
RUN
We run through all of the parks and get a look at the beautiful Paradise Pier in early morning. Then we run the streets of Anaheim on the way to Angel Stadium. We run through Angel Stadium and back to Disneyland where we cross the finish line to earn the Black Widow Half Marathon Medal and the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge Medal for completing both the 10K and Half this weekend. While there are usually more sights to see in Angel Stadium, this was still a favorite and we are so happy we were there one last time. Keep an eye out for fellow podcaster @RunEatRepeat!
EAT
Yes, we couldn’t help ourselves and went back to Sabroso but this time for their amazing Torta! That is a great sandwich!
DRINK
We headed out to Manhattan Beach and to the MB Post to experience an original cocktail made by one of the bartenders there. It is amazing and delicious!

RED Episode #12 Thor 10K, Dessert at Sabroso, and Cocktails at MB Post
Saturday Dec 16, 2017
Saturday Dec 16, 2017
In this episode, we run the Thor 10K at Disneyland in Anaheim, California.
RUN
It was a great race all throughout all of the Disneyland Parks. Early morning might be a tough wake up call but the parks are just beautiful and the characters and sights make it all worthwhile.
Here’s a look at the course:
EAT
We head back to Sabroso! For a great dessert: guava tamales. A delicious offering from their newly opened coffee shop just a couple of doors down from their restaurant. Sweet guava and savory corn tamales homemade and served warm. Quite tasty!
DRINK
Finally, we try a great cocktail from the Manhattan Beach Post, or MB Post. Yes, we drove outside the Anaheim area, but it was worth it. We tried the Manhattan Avenue cocktail with bacon dust. That’s right, bacon dust. It was amazing.

RED Episode #11: Spider-Man 5K, Sabroso!, and Tin Roof Bistro
Monday Dec 11, 2017
Monday Dec 11, 2017
In this episode, we run the first of three final races to be held at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. It is the SuperHeroes Half Marathon Weekend. This is our favorite RunDisney race series and we are so sad to see them on hiatus (hopefully and not canceled for good).
RUN
This is the SpiderMan 5K. The course is great through the parks and beautifully lit up with characters all along the course and people cheering you on all along the way, both employees and fans of Disneyland!
Here’s a map of the course we took:
EAT
Welcome to one of our favorite all-time restaurants, which has also been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, Sabroso! Actually located in Garden Grove, about 10 minutes away from Disneyland, Guy Fieri has featured some amazing dishes from here, but we have a breakfast dish that is out of this world!
DRINK
We took off to Manhattan Beach for this one and stopped at the Tin Roof Bistro. It is such a quaint little place minutes from the beach. They have great craft beers on tap and we featured the Nut Brown Ale from AleSmith Brewing Company out of San Diego, California.
THAT’S A WRAP!

Tuesday Dec 05, 2017
This was a tough episode for me to do because of how the race turned out for me. I had surgery for a torn meniscus, and I had not done the work of losing the weight for this race, so my knee decided not to cooperate this time around. A sad result, but I will come back next year and fight for redemption using the lessons I learned this year.
But, it is a race that everyone should know about and if you love to Run, Eat, and Drink, like I do, hence the podcast, then the Epcot Food and Wine Festival and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend are events you should check out!
In this episode, we recap the race, and show for the first time on a RunDisney race course, Pandora in Animal Kingdom, which was just beautiful.
We wanted to complete the other 3 miles to earn the half marathon medal that they gave us, even though we could not earn the challenge medal. So we were off to the World Showcase at Epcot and we walked it three times to complete the rest of “our race.”
That gave us the chance to share the beer cheese soup from Canada and Moosehead Lager with you. They are amazing samplings from the Food and Wine Festival. We have others to come in upcoming Quick Bites.
It was an amazing time and I highly recommend RunDisney weekends. They may be pricey, but the course through the parks, the characters on the course, the entertainment, and the bling are all reasons to consider a runcation at Walt Disney World in Orlando. That is why I featured this race, despite what happened.
Here's a look at the course:

Monday Nov 27, 2017
In this Quick Bite, we recap the 10K at the 2017 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. We did the 10K as part of the Two-Course Challenge.
You can find out more about this Orlando and Walt Disney World race weekend on Run Disney’s website.
It was a nice course that started through the streets around Walt Disney World, then took us to Hollywood Studios, along the water and the awesome scenery as the sun came up along the BoardWalk, and we finished around the World Showcase at Epcot.
Check out some scenery and a recap of what it was like along the course in this short quick bite. Here is the course map of where we ran 10K.
I discovered what it was like to have some left in the tank at the end of a race to surge and finish ahead of the balloon ladies. For those who don’t know, I talk about who they are in this quick bite. They are such nice ladies that help us keep pace. I just wish I had reserved more for the half marathon because I think my surge here coupled with my previous knee injury had an impact on my Half Marathon performance the following day. More on that in an upcoming episode.

RED Quick Bite #26: Sparkle Skirts
Friday Nov 24, 2017
Friday Nov 24, 2017
Our second stop at the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend Expo was Sparkle Skirts. Jill Collins, Expo Manager for Sparkle Skirts, took time to tell us what makes Sparkle Skirts great for running at any distance.
I ran in a HikerChic Sparkle Skirt at the Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend, and it was an awesome experience. It totally eliminated the need for a running belt at the race.
If you have any experience with Sparkle Skirts, please share it with us or with the world on social media with #sparkleskirts. Follow them on all of their social media @SparkleSkirts, too!

Quick Bite #25 Night Runner 270 Shoe Lights
Monday Nov 20, 2017
Monday Nov 20, 2017
This is the first Quick Bite from the 2017 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World.
At the start of any race weekend at Walt Disney World, it is time to pick up our race bibs and check out the expo.
At the expo, we met Renata and Doug Storer, who were featured on Shark Tank for their Night Runner 270 Shoe Lights. These are great for safety when running in early morning or after dark in the evening. They took time to talk with us about their product. Check out their website and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or YouTube to find out more.
My husband purchased these lights and we will be reviewing them in a later episode, but here, we interviewed Doug and Renata, not because it is a paid advertisement, but because we believe in staying safe as runners and this is a great product that helps us do just that, so we decided to feature it on the podcast.

RED Quick Bite #22 Behind the Beer Part 2
Thursday Nov 02, 2017
Thursday Nov 02, 2017
In this Quick Bite, we return to Mike White, Director of Brewing Operations at LauderAle Brewery and Tap Room.
In our last episode, Mike talked about the importance of reverse osmosis and adding just the right minerals to mimic water from a certain area when making beer. He also described the importance and role of the grains and barley in creating beer.
In this Quick Bite, he focuses on one of his favorites, hops, as well as yeast and its role in the beer making process.

Thursday Nov 02, 2017
This was an amazing episode to film. Thanks to Ryan Buynak and all the people at LauderAle Brewery and Tap Room for inviting me to film and to the Running Wild LauderAle Run Club for inviting us to tag along on their Monday 5K.
Run
Running Wild, a Fort Lauderdale Running Store, partners with LauderAle to host a 5K run every Monday night at 6:30 at LauderAle. It is a fun run that takes us from the brewery through the industrial park near the airport and back again. And what made the run wild? Monkeys. That’s right, stay tuned during the course highlights for monkeys.
Eat
If you want authentic Dominican food, come get some from Chef Blas Baldepina at Tio’z Urban Dominican Food Truck. We tried the fried cheese that needed no breading, the tasty fried plantains called tostones, and finally, chicharron de pollo. You need “smell-o-vision” to do all of these justice. The homemade spicy chili sauce was simply the best compliment to this meal. We were lucky enough to film inside the truck as Blas was making our meal, and we will feature that in an upcoming Quick Bite.
Drink
We got to go behind the beer and in this episode we feature Mike White, who is in charge of the brewing process at LauderAle. He gave us an introduction to making beer, starting with the water and barley, and he will continue this talk in another Quick Bite very soon.
LauderAle just won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival for their C-Porter, so it seemed appropriate to sample the porter that earned them top honors. With flavors like a hint of caramel, chocolate, and coconut, this dark beer is right up my alley, and I can see why it took home the prize! It is like a mounds bar in a glass, but this Porter is lighter in body than most at 6.2% ABV.

RED Quick Bite #21 Bury Me Brewing Soulless
Thursday Oct 26, 2017
Thursday Oct 26, 2017
This is the last beer we sampled at Bury Me Brewing in Fort Myers after the Cops and Joggers 5K, hosted by Fort Myers Police Department and Fort Myers Track Club. 😞
This is Soulless, a Scotch Ale, but it has a soul! It is lighter than its red color lets on and has toffee and caramel notes without being sweet like a mead or barley wine. It is 7.5% ABV, so I don’t know that I could have too many of them without an Uber, Lyft, or designated driver, but it is one to savor as you sip it.

RED Quick Bite #20 Bury Me Brewing Creamation
Wednesday Oct 25, 2017
Wednesday Oct 25, 2017
After the Fort Myers Police Department’s Cops and Joggers 5K, we headed to Bury Me Brewing in Fort Myers to try a flight of their beers, and they did not disappoint.
On this quick bite, we feature a lighter and easy-drinking kind of beer called Creamation. It has notes of honey and orange. If you are familiar with Orange Blossom Pilsner, think of those flavors. Not super sweet, this is a sessionable beer you can have on a hot summer night or after completing a race for a great cause, like the FMPD Cops and Joggers race to benefit Fallen Officers Memorial Fund and Brotherhood Ride. Tryi it soon!

RED Quick Bite #19 Bury Me Brewing La Moon
Tuesday Oct 24, 2017
Tuesday Oct 24, 2017
After the Fort Myers Police Department’s Cops and Joggers 5K, we headed to Bury Me Brewing in Fort Myers. It is a great little place with that cool vibe just right for the Octoberfest and Halloween seasons or anytime you want to check out a funky joint.
In this Quick Bite, we sample La Moon from Bury Me. It has a light body and lingering Thai flavors. If you like a light lemongrass flavor, give this one a try.
