RUN
On Saturday, Aimee ran the Tunnel to Towers 5K in Fort Myers on the Florida Southwestern State College campus. The cause and organization has a motto: “While we have time, let us do good.” We did support a great cause at that race weekend, and this foundation supports our country’s heroes and their families. Their contribution is mortgage-free homes to families of fallen heroes, those injured serving our great nation in our military. This organization supports police officers, firefighters, and first responders in the same way. It was a moving tribute to open the race and a safe, closed course on the college campus. The medal and shirt were well done, too. The best part is that these 5K foot races are run nationwide, so chances are one is near you if you want to participate and support a great organization.
Find out more about the race and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at these links:

EAT
The post-race party brought tasty chicken wings from a place called Glory Days. These were smoked and seasoned with their special dry-rub recipe. Plus, the staff serving these delicious and smoky offerings were so friendly. They provided post-race water, too. It was a protein-packed post-race offering. Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Georgia have locations, too. You can have these and a great margarita, their restaurants, and much more!
If you needed carbs, bagels were only two steps away at the next booth, provided by The Bagel Factory. This is a local bagel place with all sorts of tasty bagels and cream cheese spreads in various flavors, even pumpkin available now that it is fall, too!
DRINK
We are on hiatus right now from enjoying cocktails, beer, or wine as we start to ramp up our training again. Dana is testing a new beverage that serves as a meal and can also support our training and recovery. We are getting into the heart of our training to return to the Disneyland races with the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge (a 10K and Half Marathon Challenge). Often, we need a protein-packed meal but have little time to make it. Other protein shakes we have tried are chalky, and some have an artificial aftertaste. Dana researched and looked for better. Enter The Whole Feast. It is all-natural and packs 21 grams of protein per serving, but Dana says it is the best-tasting protein shake he has ever had.

RUN, EAT, and DRINK with RunDisney Legend Alan Young
In this episode, we talk with a member of the “Runcation Nation” and pillar of the RunDisney community, Alan Young. He talks about his storied journey and fantastic history with RunDisney. He took this journey with his beautiful wife, Grace, who you see in some of the episode artwork pictures this week.
He is what’s known as “perfect” in the RunDisney realm. What does it mean… to be “perfect,” you ask? It is a title given to all those who have completed all Walt Disney World Marathons in history. He goes further than all those who have done that, though. He is the only one left who can say he has completed the Disneyland Marathon when it was held once upon a time.
With his passion for Disneyland and Walt Disney World evident, Alan talked with us about his favorites across the parks when it came to eating and drinking in the Disney bubble after the running. We loved it because he confirmed much of what we have had at the parks and at Disney Springs, too!

Adrianne is a professional runner, advocate for amputee rights and motivational speaker. Her passion and positivity set an example for anyone facing tough challenges in life.
Last April, she ran the Boston Marathon with the 2017 New York City Marathon Champion Shalane Flanagan. We talk about her experiences leading up to and training with Shalane on this week’s show.
She has many valuable lessons and tips in this conversation for anyone pursuing a tough challenge or goal. Take this one on a long run with you for sure!
EAT & DRINK
We were all thinking about brunch when we started our interview with Adrianne over our Sunday morning coffee. She mentioned a diner we should all visit if we ever venture to Salem, Massachusetts. It’s called The Ugly Mug Diner. You should check out their menu of food and beverages at uglymugdiner.com. It had us thinking of brunch and how we must get up there and try it soon!
Adrianne shares tips and tools to fuel well during training later in our conversation. Are you wondering about those Superhero muffins? She refers to recipes from Run Fast. Eat Slow by Shalane Flanagan and Elyse Kopecky. You can find the book in print: https://amzn.to/3JSjVfX or a Kindle edition here: https://amzn.to/3A0occr. RUN, EAT, and DRINK on a Dopey Challenge Runcation at Walt Disney World with Dawn Broussard! It's an episode perfect for your long run!
In this episode, we talk with a member of the “Runcation Nation” and patron of our show, Dawn Broussard.
She talks about completing the Dopey Challenge with her daughter this past year.
Of course after completing a 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and her first-ever marathon in the SAME weekend, she had to explore, indulge, and celebrate this big accomplishment. She selected Artist Point, a character dining experience at Wilderness Lodge. Which characters, you ask? Snow White, Grumpy, and of course, Dopey! Photo opp is included!
This meal features tasty shared appetizers, individual entrees, and shared desserts along with a non-alcoholic beverage included in the price of the dinner.
The biggest stars of the meal had to be the slow-braised pork shank and the Enchanted Apple martini that Dawn talked about with us. Yummy! We want to check out the Miner’s Treasure cookies and cream dessert, too! It all sounds very tempting, very much like the poison apple that Snow White was tempted with in the fairytale.
There are food options for the kids and themed drinks without alcohol, too, if you are still hydrating after your race, like the Transformation Potion and Wishing Apple Punch. It sounds like this meal has something for everyone!

In this episode, we capture another inspiring runcation recap. Member of the “Runcation Nation” and patron of our show, Josh Ozbirn, joins us. He talks a bit about his background. Josh was also generous enough to share his recent journey through a severe health scare and recovery. Finally, it is a recap of his favorite race, Donna Marathon Weekend.
Special thanks to Josh for his time and for sharing a favorite from his home state of Alabama, Ruby Sunshine. We can’t wait to try brunch there; rumor has it there are locations across the United States. Checkout the menu and search for a location near you here: https://www.rubybrunch.com/menu/

RUN
We begin our seventh year with a tradition: Richard’s Father’s Day Family Walk / Jog at Uele in Tampa. This year we were lucky to have a team of six from the Runcation Nation, plus two who could not be with us yet still there in spirit. Dawn and Jessica, who planned to come but could not: we wish we could have had you there! To Kelly and Aden Anderson, Christy Van Allen, and Greg Elsberry, thank you for joining our team. Thank you to Michael Kilgore, retired but still organizing this event for the Colombia Restaurant Group, for allowing us to give away tickets to this great event!
This year, Richard Gonzmart, the race’s namesake, was there. We recap what he shared with us, the significant milestone reached on this tenth anniversary of the event, the course, the shirts, and the overall great feeling we come away with every year supporting a great place like Moffitt Cancer Center.
Find out more about this event and the Colombia Restaurant Group’s upcoming nighttime run, Richard’s Run for Life, through the streets of Ybor (including a great afterparty) in November here:
http://richardsrunforlife.org/
EAT
Ulele, a restaurant, and brewery full of connections to the rich history of Florida and Tampa, was our destination for this Father’s Day menu that we could not miss. We recap our meal, full of specials just from the specialty menu for Father’s Day. We might have had some from the regular menu, too!
If you are ever in Tampa, you must try this Florida fresh, and Native-American inspired menu. (We know this is not the drink segment, but we can’t help but also say, check out all of the brews created by Head Brewmaster Tim Shackton, too.)
Here’s a peek at the menu: https://ulele.com/wp-content/uploads/Ulele-menu.pdf
DRINK
This week, as we waited for our reservation at Ulele, we walked right next door to Armature Works and sampled a beverage that piqued our interest, the Buddy Brew Screw from the fine folks at Buddy Brew! Armature Works has plenty of food and beverage options, but we were after some coffee. Yes, we said it would never happen again, but we did this race without coffee and needed this unique boost we had never seen before! We will be back for more of their menu in the future!
Here’s more information about Armature Works and Buddy Brew:

“Hi, Aimee & Dana!!
This is Trip 😃. How are you guys?
Josh mentioned that he might be on your show soon.
Can you give him a big SHOUT OUT from all of us in Runcation Nation? He has been killing his recovery from heart surgery!! He goes to the lake near his house and walks or “rucks” every day in the blistering heat & humidity that you guys have. He has also been hiking on trails and was cleared to power lift again. Josh is rusting his butt. He has healed up & is almost back to work. I’ve talked to JoJo too…We are all so proud of him!! Please give him a shout-out! 🙌
Thank you, guys!
I’ll see you soon when you go live.
Hugs to Dad ❤️

Dean Gerber wanted to thank his wife and sister, Judy Gerber and Linda Meyers, for supporting him during the Keys 100.
Judy sent in an email shoutout for Dean as well. Her email read, “I want to shout out my husband, Dean, who ran the Keys 100 ultramarathon this past weekend. Not only doing it for himself but is partnering with a friend who is injured to help him finish as well.” Way to go, Dean!

RUN
This is a landmark episode number, and we are nearing our sixth anniversary of the show. So, we wanted to introduce a new kind of episode in our feed, starting with episode 250 this week. We are introducing Runcation Recaps. These are episodes featuring members of the Runcation Nation telling us about a fantastic race weekend. This allows everyone in our community to learn about amazing race weekends nationwide.
This week we welcome long-time patrons of our show, Dean and Judy Gerber. They are joined by another patron of ours over on Buy Me A Coffee, who happens to be Dean’s sister, Linda Meyers. Together they recap the 2023 Keys 100. All of them were so gracious with their time. It was so important to have them all here because, unlike a race with water stops, you have to provide your crew at this one. There are laughs, inspirational moments, and all kinds of tips for this epic race weekend.
You can find Dean, Judy, and Linda here:
Dean: @dwgerb
Linda: @lindygmyers
Judy: @sleepgal67
More information about Dean’s new running project that he talked about in this episode is available at @florida_scrub_runner
The nutrition and hydration options Dean used can be found here: hammernutrition.com
EAT
No recap would be complete for the Runcation Nation without discussing exploring and indulging in local food and beverage. Dean, Judy, and Linda talk about the fuel, food, and drinks Dean used along the course and the options he brought from hammernutrition.com.
Before the race is the time to carb-load, right? Dean, Judy, and Linda talk about their pre-race meal at Cafe DiGiorgio’s in Key Largo near the start of the race. For the garlic knots alone, I want to go. Dean and the crew highly recommend the staff and meals here if you consider this race weekend or a vacation to the Florida Keys. Find out more about this cafe at https://www.keylargo-cafelargo.com/.
After the running and crewing the Keys 100, it was time to explore and indulge at Blue Heaven in Key West. Based on their review, I can’t wait to get there and try the dishes they describe in this episode. Check out the menu here: https://blueheavenkw.com/
DRINK
The 2023 Keys 100 has to be celebrated… all that running must make you thirsty, right? Dean said burgers and beer were at the post-race site, where they cheered other runners in after finishing. Dean, Judy, and Linda talk about both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options that are refreshing ways to celebrate at Blue Heaven.
THAT’S A WRAP!
Thanks to Dean, Judy, and Linda for sharing our FIRST-EVER Runcation Recap. Congratulations on your accomplishment, too!!

RUN
On Saturday, We participated in the Inaugural Run with Meb! It was a race at Al Lopez Park to benefit the MEB Foundation. According to its website, “The MEB Foundation mission is to be a collaborator and leader in the areas of youth health, education, and fitness.” Aimee’s father was a football coach for many years as an educator, so this purpose speaks to us as we have seen first-hand the positive impact sports can have as children and teenagers grow. Sports can help them mature into productive, healthy young adults and teach many positive values. We thank Meb for a great race weekend and talk about our strategies, the race, and the swag from the weekend.
EAT
Speaking of things we featured in our first episode, Coppertail Brewing Company in Tampa, Florida, was also on that list. As we approach our 6th Anniversary, we thought visiting their taproom and seeing where all their tasty brews are made would be great. Little did we know, there would be delicious bites, too! We present our hot takes as we enjoyed some menu offerings you’ve gotta try.
DRINK
Coppertail Brewing Company has core beers we tried on our first few episodes about the Tampa Beer Run. In this episode, we review flights of their featured beers. What is the verdict? Coppertail Brewing Company has some fantastic featured beer in their taproom. So, if you come for Gasparilla Distance Classic or a vacation to the Tampa Bay Area, stop by and have a flight!

As we prepare for the Run with Meb!, which is just two short weeks away, we thought we would flashback to Meb’s conversation about his book, 26 Marathons: What I Learned About Faith, Identity, Running, and Life from My Marathon Career.
Run with Meb! is coming up on May 6, 2023, in Tampa, Florida. To find out more and register, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/FL/Tampa/MEBFoundationRun.
Enjoy this flashback, and let us know if you have read his book.
At the 2019 Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend, yes, we ran a half marathon, but we also got to catch up with an exceptional guest...Meb Keflezighi!
He is the only man to win the New York City Marathon (2009), an Olympic Silver Medal (Athens 2004), and the Boston Marathon (2014). We were so lucky to interview him before our race back in 2018 at Gasparilla. Liam, from Hawi Management, arranged for us to have a few minutes with a very busy Meb Keflezighi to talk about his new book, 26 Marathons: What I Learned About Faith, Identity, Running, and Life from My Marathon Career. Thank you, Liam!
Meb is such a humble and genuine man. He has gone through so much adversity and turned it into success. He knows so much more than how to win, train for, and complete distance races. He knows the importance of family and community. He is dedicated to sharing his knowledge, and this latest book is one way he does that. He supports other runners, no matter their level, and gives back to the sport endlessly. He even told us about a couple of races he is involved in California that offer anyone a chance to accomplish, explore, and indulge. I hope we get to do them soon!
We thank Meb for the precious time discussing these life lessons from the book and what he has on the horizon this year. We know from our talk that this book is not just for runners but for anyone looking to be successful in the marathon of life.

RUN
We have just returned from the 2023 Springtime Surprise Toy Story Ten-Miler in Orlando, Florida at Walt Disney World Resort. Even though we did not participate in the challenge, these miles were challenging. We discuss our experience at the Expo, pre-race rituals, pre-race party, the race itself, and the post-race celebration.
EAT and DRINK: The 2023 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival
The Citrus Blossom is one of our favorites so far as we work our way around the 2023 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival. We visited it on opening weekend of the festival, which runs through July this year! We give you our hot takes as we sampled some Orange Bird-Inspired food and beer at this air-conditioned booth.
