RED Episode #29: Cape Cops 5K and Nice Guys Pizza & Cocktails
Wednesday May 30, 2018
Wednesday May 30, 2018
RUN
We ran a race in our hometown this week, the Cape Cops 5k. This race is near and dear to our hearts. It benefits the families of fallen officers and those injured in the line of duty. It was a great way to see parts of our community that we do not normally see on a daily basis as well as support those who keep us safe. If you have a chance to run a race like this in your community, you should. It is a great feeling.
EAT
Nice Guys Pizza is a place we have talked about and we have shot Quick Bites from on several occasions. Recently, they celebrated their 5th anniversary. We are so honored and humbled to have been some of their first customers. If you are ever in our hometown, you need to stop by this amazing hole-in-the-wall pizza place with delicious food, amazing cocktails, and tasty craft beer.
Greg and Jovana, the owners of this outstanding pizza joint, welcomed us into the kitchen this week for a peek behind the scenes. We got to see how they make their awesome pizza. On the menu this week, the first pizza we ever tried there: The Truffle Shuffle.
DRINK
Jimmy creates some amazing cocktails at Nice Guys Pizza. The one we feature this week is their most popular and our favorite, The Pendennis. It is the greatest Smoked Old Fashioned I've ever had.
Stay tuned throughout this week and next for Quick Bites featuring great food and beverages from Nice Guys Pizza. They mean so much to us that we can't help but celebrate them and what they have done for our community.

Nice Guys Pizza is a place we have talked about and we have shot Quick Bites from on several occasions. This week, they celebrate their 5th anniversary. We are so honored and humbled to have been some of their first customers. If you are ever in our hometown, you need to stop by this amazing hole-in-the-wall pizza place with delicious food (not just pizza), amazing cocktails, and tasty craft beer. For the next several episodes, we will feature cocktails, beer, and outstanding food from this place that is so close to our hearts.
Greg and Jovana, the owners of this outstanding pizza joint, welcomed us, made us feel at home, and gave us support through some of the happiest, challenging, and emotional times in our lives. This is like a second home to us. To you, it may be the same thing. Or we may be introducing you to this very special place. Either way, everyone needs to experience the great food and terrific people who make up the Nice Guys Family.
This Quick Bite features Point Ybel Brewing Company Pendennis the Menace and a great special from the menu the Chicken Parm sandwich. In addition, we got a new menu item, Ranch Tots. They were a side for us, but they can be ordered as an appetizer with lots of tasty sauces! It is all mouth-watering to say the least!

Either way, everyone needs to experience the great food and terrific people who make up the Nice Guys Family.
This episode demonstrates the connections that Nice Guys Pizza has in the local craft beer community. They collaborated with five local breweries to create special beers to tap for their anniversary. By the time we air this episode, they may be gone, but they demonstrate how awesome the craft beer community is in Southwest Florida and how we can’t wait to feature them in an upcoming episode, even if we have featured them on previous ones, too.
The anniversary draft list includes:
Fort Myers Brewing Company Birthday Cake Porter
Point Ybel Brewing Company Pendennis the Menace
Bury Me Brewing Company DDH Nenzit Russian Imperial
Momentum Brewhouse Death Before Sour Mix
Big Top Brewing Company Unicorn Tears
And finally, in this episode, we feature the Lazy Wings. Truly genius, these wings include a sauce that has everything you need, no sides or dipping sauces required.
Stay tuned throughout this week and next for Quick Bites as well as a full episode featuring great food and beverages from Nice Guys Pizza. They mean so much to us that we can't help but celebrate them for an entire week of Quick Bites as well as on our episode featuring the Cape Cops 5k!

RED Quick Bite #35: Run Disney Expo and the BFF Massager
Friday May 11, 2018
Friday May 11, 2018
Part of the appeal of RunDisney races in Orlando is the Expo that takes place Wednesday to Sunday of every race weekend. We thought we’d give you a peek inside with a special visit to the SparkleSkirts booth to say thank you to them for all the awesome custom skirts they have made for us, including the Star Wars themed skirts that you have seen in the episodes highlighting the races for the weekend. In addition, we are HUGE fans of the BFF Massager in terms of running recovery, so we stopped by their booth, too, and Joe was nice enough to give us a demo. Visit their website to see if this could aid in your running recovery! Jeff Galloway is a supporter of this tool and we can’t say enough great things about it.

Monday May 07, 2018
Monday May 07, 2018
Our friends at Pure Creative Apparel, Pam and Ariel Gonzalez designed our logo and made us some awesome t-shirts for races during this past year as we launched our podcast. We love them and we appreciate all their hard work for us. This is not a "paid" advertisement but just two friends of ours and we want to show the world the awesome work they do and say thank you to them on the show.
If you want great designs or t-shirts made, be sure to reach out to them and let them know you heard it here!

RED Episode #27: Star Wars 10K at Walt Disney World in Orlando
Friday May 04, 2018
Friday May 04, 2018
RUN
In this episode, we recap the Star Wars 10K that was part 1 of our First Order Challenge in Orlando at Walt Disney World.
You can find out more about this Orlando and Walt Disney World race weekend on Run Disney’s website.
It was a nice and flat course that started through the streets around Magic Kingdom (not inside the park), then took us inside Hollywood Studios, along the water and the awesome scenery of the BoardWalk, and we finished running through a short portion of the World Showcase at Epcot.
EAT
At the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, we had so many delicious offerings to choose from, and the Northern Lights (the Canadian area of the World Showcase). We headed there for dessert. Can you say warm maple pound cake with peach compote and sweet corn gelato? We can...
DRINK
Also in the area best known as Canada but currently known as the Northern Lights during the festival, we discovered that there were several tasty beverages that we needed to try. One was a Maple Popcorn Milkshake featuring Crown Royal Maple Whiskey. And of course there was a beer flight, but this one has a special place in our hearts because Unibroue beer helped us recover from Hurricane Irma in 2017. Here’s what we got to sample:
Unibroue Maudite Amber Ale
Unibroue À Tout Le Monde Saison
Unibroue Éphémère White Ale

RED Quick Bite #33 Pineapple Promenade at Epcot Flower and Garden Festival 2018
Wednesday May 02, 2018
Wednesday May 02, 2018
RUN
We ran the Star Wars First Order Challenge and we couldn’t do that without stopping by the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival to celebrate afterward.
You can find out more about this Orlando and Walt Disney World race weekend on Run Disney’s website.
EAT
At the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, we had so many delicious offerings to choose from, and Pineapple Promenade is one at the top of our favorites list. We had the hot dog with Pineapple Chutney, Sriracha Mayo, and Plantain Chips. YUM! The Dole Whip is half way between a beverage and a dessert. It has pineapple soft serve floating in Parrot Bay Coconut Rum!! (I think we were so excited we said the wrong brand...)
DRINK
We just had to sample the beer flight, too! With offerings from these great breweries:

Wednesday Apr 25, 2018
Wednesday Apr 25, 2018
RUN
In this episode, we recap the Dark Side Half Marathon at the 2018 Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend.
You can find out more about this Orlando and Walt Disney World race weekend on Run Disney’s website.
It was a nice course that started through the streets around Magic Kingdom (not inside the park), then took us inside Animal Kingdom and the beautiful new part featuring Avatar-themed adventures. We reached the 10K mark outside the park and headed to Hollywood Studios, along the water and the awesome scenery, down the BoardWalk, and we finished with a lap around the World Showcase at Epcot.
EAT
At the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival, we had so many delicious offerings to choose from, and Mexico is one of our favorites. Chilaquiles was our selection and it did not disappoint.
DRINK
Also in Mexico, was the tasty Rose Margarita. It was not too “floral” in flavor, but a perfect blend of tequila and sweetness to complement our dish.

QUICK BITE FROM FAST AND FURRIEST 5K
RUN
The Fast and The Furriest 5K is quite possibly one of the best 5Ks we've run because it benefits the Gulf Coast Humane Society, an organization that supports animals in need. Please support this great organization by running or walking this race, volunteering, or donating. You can run, you can walk, and best of all, your dog can participate in the race. We met some of the best dogs and people. One dog stole our hearts. Her name is Tegan. You can follow her on Instagram here.
This Quick Bite is her inspiring story. Jess and Mike rescued her from Second Chance Pet Adoptions in Raleigh, North Carolina and recently relocated to the Fort Myers area with her. Tegan was a hero to everyone on the course that day and we appreciate Jess and Mike telling us her story!

EAT
There is a great new place for tacos and burritos in Fort Myers called Chronic Tacos. We went and had an awesome California Burrito. They have awesome breakfast tacos too, which will be featured in a Quick Bite soon. This restaurant shares its space with a great place to have a beer, too.
DRINK
Marlins Brewhouse features over 40 beers on tap and crowlers! We had a great local beer from Scotty's Bierwerks and this brewhouse features all kinds of tasty Florida beer. Be sure to check out their Chronic Fest coming up soon. We talked with owner, Tim Frederic, about what makes this place so great.

RED Quick Bite #31: Dunk This Doughnut Cocktail at Datz in Tampa
Wednesday Apr 04, 2018
Wednesday Apr 04, 2018
RUN
Last June, we launched our podcast, and the first run we ever featured was the Tampa Beer Run. Tampa Beer Run is not only special because it was our first, but because it benefits My Hope Chest, which helps those recovering from breast cancer with reconstructive surgery costs. After the run, we got a bite to eat and a cocktail at Datz.
EAT
Datz is a great place to eat in the Tampa area, only blocks from Bayshore Boulevard, a beautiful stretch of sidewalk, maybe even the longest in Florida, where you can look out over the beautiful Tampa Bay and where we ran Gasparilla in February. Datz features classic comfort food with a twist, has a great brunch menu, and some creative cocktails as well as an outstanding beer list.
DRINK
At Datz we had a great cocktail featuring coffee and a powdered doughnut as a garnish! The Dunk this Doughnut Cocktail is what we are featuring in this Quick Bite.

RED Quick Bite #30: The Farmer at Maple Street Biscuit Company in Jax
Wednesday Mar 28, 2018
Wednesday Mar 28, 2018
RUN
The Donna Marathon Weekend got off to a great start. We decided to experience as much of the weekend as possible by completing the Booby Trap Challenge, which is the 10K, 5K, and Half Marathon during the weekend. And who are we kidding, we love the bling! When we first featured The Maple Street Biscuit Company, we had just completed the 10K and the 5K. And we were HUNGRY! So we had a few of the tasty dishes this rustic community-focused restaurant has to offer.
EAT
We were starving when we finished our last race, and we had heard great things about The Maple Street Biscuit Company. Apple butter is my jam! Pun intended. And The Farmer has tons of it along with tasty chicken, bacon, cheese, and a homemade biscuit to boot. Guy Fieri perfected the hunch, but can I?
DRINK
No featured drinks in this episode, but The Maple Street Biscuit Company has tasty coffee as well as fountain drinks and more.

RED Quick Bite #29: Flashback to The Dusty Boot at Black Sheep in Jax
Sunday Mar 25, 2018
Sunday Mar 25, 2018
RUN
The Donna Marathon Weekend is what brought us to Jacksonville and led us to some tasty food and beverages. In this Quick Bite, we flashback to some that we tried but did not get the chance to share in the original episode from that amazing weekend in February.
EAT
A place to celebrate our accomplishment? Black Sheep in the historic Five Points District of Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood. They are focused on creating delicious dishes using local ingredients. We took time to talk with Executive Chef Waylon Rivers about what makes this restaurant special. We featured his pasta dish in RED Episode #20 but he also gave us a great recommendation for a celebratory drink.
DRINK
Black Sheep is home to some eclectic cocktails and Waylon's recommendation was their version of a whiskey sour called the Dusty Boot. I could have had 3 or 4 of those to celebrate completing our races.

RED Episode #24: Levis JCC Sprint and Sip in Boca Raton
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
Tuesday Mar 20, 2018
RUN
Last July, we went to Boca Raton to run the Levis JCC Run, Sweat, and Beers Race. We stumbled upon a great race. It was on a Thursday, and that was the day I had off from work, and it was to support a community organization, so that is why we decided to go. But we discovered a great organization, a well-organized run, and a great brewery at the after party. So we registered for their inaugural Sprint and Sip, which was originally scheduled for September. Hurricane Irma forced it to be postponed until March 2018. It is a great little nighttime race series, all contained within a park, and with beer at the after party. This time, we got great little medals that double as bottle openers! If you are in Boca Raton, check these little races out.
EAT
The reason I got so fascinated with this restaurant was that their logo looked like a comic book and caught my eye, but the food is so delicious at Kapow Noodle Bar. The mural inside is beautiful and the food is next level. We tried the Singapore Street Noodles. Their curry flavor and pork belly make me wish I could have it all over again as I write these show notes. Mouthwatering goodness!
DRINK
Barrel of Monks Brewery is nestled in a little industrial park, but the vibe inside is comfortable with great lighting and barrels mounted on walls. Swag that pays tribute to classic 80’s movies and video games is the icing on the cake. The beer is so tasty. We tried the Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout Den of Sins. Amazing!

Monday Mar 12, 2018
Monday Mar 12, 2018
RUN
Last June, we launched our podcast, and the first run we ever featured was the Tampa Beer Run. A link to the first episode is here. Tampa Beer Run is not only special because it was our first, but because it benefits My Hope Chest, which helps those recovering from breast cancer with reconstructive surgery costs. This was a great run in Al Lopez Park and with 4 different beer stops featuring samples from local Florida breweries and one from Georgia. Don't forget about My Hope Chest’s upcoming GloWalk in April, too, which will be a great time running through the historic Tampa RiverWalk at night!
DRINK
On the run, there were four beer stops featuring the following brews:
Our favorites were the Motorworks and the Six Ten. We can’t wait to have them again.
At Datz we had a great cocktail featuring coffee and a powdered doughnut as a garnish! Look for it on a Quick Bite in the coming weeks!

Special thanks to our sponsor, Health I.Q.! Health I.Q. celebrates the healthy choices people make by helping them find lower rates on life insurance. A big thank you to them for sponsoring this week's show.
RUN
Last weekend, we participated in the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic. The PGDC in Tampa, Florida has a variety of distances you can run during the weekend both timed races and races just for fun, and we selected the half marathon as the second part of our Treasured Chest Challenge (running the Donna Half Marathon and the Gasparilla Half Marathon). It was a hot and humid day. I’m not gonna lie to you. I finished the race very slowly and it was HOT and HUMID. I made the mistake of not hydrating enough before the race or during, so I suffered afterward, so much so that I almost had to skip the eating and drinking portion of our podcast. But I rallied back to feature a couple of great places.
EAT
A place to celebrate our accomplishment? Kojak’s House of Ribs. A South Tampa staple since 1978 and a recommendation coming directly from my camera man, who was born and raised there, Kojak’s ribs are a must when in Tampa.
DRINK
We headed to Tampa Bay Brewing Company to try a flight of locally brewed beer. TBBC is in the heart of Ybor City in Tampa, which has a lot of interesting hot spots. What did we drink to celebrate the completion of our Treasured Chest Challenge? A flight, of course!

A big thank you to them for sponsoring this week's show.
RUN
Last weekend, we participated in the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic. One of the biggest highlights of the weekend was being able to interview Meb Keflezighi, who is an inspiration to us. He is the only man to win a silver medal in the Olympics (Athens 2004), win NYC Marathon (2009), and win the Boston Marathon (2014). Watching his success was inspiring to us, but even more than that, his humility and the way he lives his life with faith, family, and education as top priorities is a key reason he inspires those around him. He also has a foundation and through it helps support and encourage people with goals in much the same way he was supported by his family, his faith, and the community around him. We interviewed him at the Expo and wanted to bring you that interview in its entirety.
We will feature the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic, Kojak’s House of Ribs, and Tampa Bay Brewing Company in a full episode later this week.

RED Quick Bite #28 Bouncy HuntERs from the Donna 26.2 Marathon Weekend
Friday Feb 23, 2018
Friday Feb 23, 2018
The Bouncy HuntERs are a group we met on the Social Shakeout Run at Southern Grounds Coffee on Friday of our Donna 26.2 Marathon Weekend two weeks ago. Andi Sharp, who started the group to benefit the Donna Foundation, took time to talk with us about the group that raises money for the Donna Foundation to help finish breast cancer, her personal endeavor with Gr8ful G8als, and what it is like to experience the Donna Marathon Weekend for the first time. She will also be running the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic this weekend as part of the Treasure Chest Challenge we will both be completing. We have linked to her Facebook group here so you can find and support their endeavors.

RUN
The Donna Marathon Weekend continued on Sunday. We signed up for the Booby Trap Challenge. That means we were scheduled to run a 10K and a 5K on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday (or runners can choose to do the full marathon instead of the half as a part of their Booby Trap Challenge). The Half and Full Marathons are run at the same time, with a 7-hour time limit on the course for both races. The spectators make this race, cheering us on with hilarious signs, offering beer, mimosas, doughnuts, and more. The fellow runners motivating each other are inspiring. The feeling of this half or full marathon is something everyone must experience.
EAT
A place to celebrate our accomplishment? Black Sheep in the historic Five Points District of Jacksonville’s Riverside neighborhood. They are focused on creating delicious dishes using local ingredients. We took time to talk with Executive Chef Waylon Rivers about what makes this restaurant special and then we sampled an amazing pasta dish, Spaghetti a'la Chitarra. Winter squash, pecorino, garlic, sage, rosemary, and sunflower seeds make this a mouthwatering must have!
DRINK
Intuition Ale Works is a great brewery in Jacksonville. We got the inside scoop from Bronson Olympia, a Tap Room Manager there. (They also serve appetizers, small plates, and sandwiches from Black Sheep!) We recommend the Jon Boat Coastal Ale as a lighter brew perfect for a hot day or our personal favorite, the Underdark is an Imperial / Double Stout that is aged in Willet Rye Barrels for a year and only released in February. So lucky we were there!

We decided to try their waffle, complete with bacon and asiago cheese in the batter, salted butter, and warm made-from-scratch maple syrup. Don't worry, we tried biscuits and their biscuit sandwiches that we will feature in upcoming quick bites, too.
DRINK
Main & Six is one of the newest breweries in the Jacksonville area, and it pays tribute to the community. Co-Founder Dennis Espinosa talks about how he got started and takes us through a flight of his tasty beers. Our favorite, of course, was the Hazelnut Coffee Stout, which was a collaboration with Social Grounds Coffee Company. Although Main & Six has only been open for three months, the beer is on point and it is a spot you need to visit when in Jacksonville.
