RED Episode #46: Barb's 5K at the JG 13.1 Half Marathon Weekend 2018
Thursday Dec 20, 2018
Thursday Dec 20, 2018
Welcome to Atlanta, Georgia and the 5th Anniversary of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend!
RUN
This episode features Barb’s 5K, the first race in our weekend celebrating the 5th Anniversary of one of our favorite races. We also got the chance to run with some great people from the Extra Mile Podcast Group. If you have not listened to the Extra Mile Podcast or Extra Mile Podcast: Galloway Edition, you are missing out. Kevin Gwin is the host of these two awesome podcasts about running and this group is so motivational. We ran through Piedmont Park. Although it was wet, raining, and very cold compared to Florida weather normally, we had a blast with these people and in the beautiful setting of the park. Barb Galloway even met us at the finish and congratulated us on finishing the race. We loved every minute! We hope you’ll join us next year!
EAT
Whenever we come to Atlanta, we make it a tradition to eat at Trader Vic’s. Home of the original Mai Tai, their food is also an amazing taste of the South Pacific. We had the Pupu Platter called Cosmo Tidbits on their menu. Ribs, perfectly battered and fried shrimp and delicious ribs from their unique wood-fired ovens that you can see as you sit and sip on your Mai Tai. We also had their delicious Morel Mushroom appetizer. It is a must-have from their menu. These appetizers are why we almost never get to the main entree. We also had a Hot-Buttered Rum as part of our dessert. Buttery, cinnamon, and sweet flavors warm you from head to toe. (I know this is the eating portion, but it was so good, I couldn’t help but mention it.) If you come to Atlanta, come to Trader Vic’s. Their entrees are also dynamite, but their appetizers are shareable and very filling.
DRINK
Right after Barb’s 5K, we went to Orpheus Brewing. They hosted a special event celebrating Barb’s 5K and letting us try their tasty beer. We had a Stout and a couple of sours they had on draft in a beautiful snifter commemorating the race weekend. We hope they continue this tradition for years to come because the after party had tasty beer and great runners to hang out with and celebrate.

RED Episode #45: Happy 5th Anniversary of the JG 13.1 Race Weekend!
Thursday Dec 13, 2018
Thursday Dec 13, 2018
It’s the 5th Anniversary of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend!
You all know that this race is near and dear to my heart because Jeff Galloway is my coach. Jeff is an Olympian and known all over the world for his Run-Walk-Run method. He and his wife Barbara have put on a fun and inspiring race weekend for the past 5 years.
Jeff and Barb have helped so many people reach their goals, from weight loss through running to completing a marathon. He is such a friend to our podcast and a mentor to us. We just had to celebrate Jeff and Barb in this first episode of our series recapping the 5th annual race weekend!
So, we wanted to take the time to say thank you to Jeff and Barb. Here are some messages to Jeff and Barb congratulating them on these past five years and wishing them many more to come!

RED Episode #44: 2018 Wine and Dine Post-Race Celebration
Thursday Nov 29, 2018
Thursday Nov 29, 2018
RUN
In this episode, we celebrate the completion of our RunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. We ran around Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Hollywood Studios has some of our favorite rides! Rockin' Rollercoaster, Star Tours, and the new Slinky Dog Dash!
EAT
We visited Australia for a really delicious lamb chop with mint pesto and potato crunchies! Awesome! It is a staple of the festival and one you should try in 2019 if it returns!
DRINK
We love the Canada booth at Epcot Food and Wine Festival and featured it last year. This time we celebrated our accomplishment with one of our favorite beers from Canada. It was Moosehead Lager! It was a refreshing and low ABV beer. Light and not hoppy, it was a great way to toast and celebrate!

RED Episode #43: 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon- A Comeback!
Saturday Nov 24, 2018
Saturday Nov 24, 2018
Welcome to Orlando, Florida and Walt Disney World for the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Two-Course Challenge, and Epcot Food and Wine Festival!
RUN
In this episode, we run the half marathon on Sunday of the RunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. The course is relatively flat and takes you from Magic Kingdom parking lot to Animal Kingdom and the beautiful Pandora area then to Hollywood Studios before finishing around the World Showcase at Epcot. My cameraman narrates most of this episode because he wanted me to run "my race at my pace" for this comeback. It is a comeback because we were picked up at mile 10 of this same half marathon last year. So we had to return and finish what we started. A year later, 50 pounds lighter, and feeling good on race day, this was an emotional one for the books!
EAT
We visited the Flavors from Fire booth at the 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival to have their smokey and delicious offerings. The Piggy Wings are pork wings with a Korean BBQ sauce and a tangy slaw. The smell of the booth alone is worth Disney bringing it back next year. We had more from the booth because of the fantastic aroma, so stay tuned for Quick Bites with more to share!
DRINK
Flavors from Fire also had an interesting bourbon beverage called the Swine Brine. Jim Beam, lemon juice, apple cider, and dijon mustard! Who thought to put all that together? A genius, that's who.

RED Quick Bite #59: Cheese Studio at 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival
Friday Nov 23, 2018
Friday Nov 23, 2018
Here's our fifth Quick Bite from the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend!
Our next stop is at the Cheese Studio that is a part of the 2018 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. We tried the Braised Beef Stroganoff and the Maple Bourbon Boursin Cheesecake. Why haven't we cooked with more dishes and desserts with Boursin before? Also, we sip on a nice dry and woodsy Alta Vista Estate Malbec that compliments the stroganoff perfectly.
Stay tuned for race recaps and more, including visits to additional booths at the 2018 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival (YUM!). Also, the most meaningful episode from the weekend - the Half Marathon Recap - is coming on SATURDAY. I'm hoping you'll watch and share, or even just drop me a comment to help celebrate this big comeback with me. It would mean so much!

Thursday Nov 22, 2018
Thursday Nov 22, 2018
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Here's our fourth Quick Bite from the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend!
We stopped at the Chocolate Studio that is a part of the 2018 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. We had it all...Liquid Nitro Chocolate-Almond Truffle, Sweet Dark Chocolate Raspberry Torte, Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Frozen Cocktail with Caramel Vodka, and Croft 10-Year Tawny Port. This was a dessert-lover's dream. We hope you'll watch, share, and enjoy this holiday weekend!

RED Episode #42: 2018 Wine and Dine 10K at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida
Wednesday Nov 21, 2018
Wednesday Nov 21, 2018
Welcome to Orlando, Florida and Walt Disney World for the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend, Two-Course Challenge, and Epcot Food and Wine Festival!
RUN
In this episode, we run the 10K on Saturday of the RunDisney Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. The course is relatively flat. The first 3 miles was on the road and the last three featured the World Showcase at Epcot. The weather was uncharacteristically cold, thanks to a front passing through this weekend. This was the first time my cameraman and I were separated by a corral. But he would not let me fall back to his corral. So, I had to do this one on my own, while he narrated most of the course for you.
EAT
We visited the Coastal Eats booth at the 2018 Epcot Food and Wine Festival to have their tasty seafood offerings. A fondue of shrimp scampi, a luscious crab cake with Asian flavors in a cream sauce on top, and a perfectly-cooked scallop with a corn succotash. Not a bad first stop on the World Showcase!
DRINK
After the 10K, we celebrated with a beer. That may not be the recommended post-race recovery beverage, but we were so happy to complete the first part of our mission here, that we could not help but celebrate with an offering at the post-race party, Raspberry Rose Ale from Playalinda Brewing Company out of Titusville, Florida. Low ABV and a not-too-sweet yet hint of tart raspberry flavor made this a great beverage to sip on while recovering from the 10K.

RED Quick Bite #55: A Pre-Race Chat with Olympian Jeff Galloway!
Wednesday Nov 14, 2018
Wednesday Nov 14, 2018
Here's our first Quick Bite from the 2018 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend and it's a big one... an honor to talk with Olympian and America's Coach, Jeff Galloway!
He was so nice and knew how much this weekend as well as his race weekend coming up in December mean to me, so he offered to sit down and have lunch with us and talk about last minute race tips for this weekend. Jeff has been our e-coach for many years now, and his expert advice and training plans make all the difference. He is such a generous and kind man with a wealth of knowledge for everyone in the walking, run-walk-run, or running community. We are so glad we got to sit down with him and get some advice. Our cameraman will tell you that it calmed my nerves tremendously!
(This was not a paid advertisement in any way. I am just really lucky to have such a great friend and coach who is willing to share his knowledge on the podcast.)
We will see him again for his race weekend and it's the 5th anniversary of his Jeff Galloway 13.1 Half Marathon Weekend. He just recently did a medal reveal on YouTube and it is huge! What a feeling it will be to have Jeff at the finish as we receive that 5th anniversary medal. I can't wait! Check out the video and the race. Come join us!

We fully intended to have episodes out this week from our incredible weekend at Walt Disney World for the Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend. We had to hit the ground running in our day jobs, and that caused a slight delay.
We will have the episodes out next week and we think they will be worth the wait! So please, stay tuned.
Also, thank you to everyone for your support and encouragement through each and every episode, but especially this weekend. It meant so much to us!

RED Episode #41: Cops and Joggers 5K in Fort Myers
Wednesday Oct 31, 2018
Wednesday Oct 31, 2018
RUN
The Cops and Joggers 5K was a race we did last year in Fort Myers. Hosted by the Fort Myers Police Department and the Fort Myers Track Club, this race benefits the Fallen Officer Memorial Foundation. We ran to help support the Fort Myers Police Department. We had to return, especially in this year when they have lost one of their own in the line of duty, Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller back in July.
We wanted to feature this race again because it is an outstanding community event and it helps support those who put their lives on the line everyday to keep us safe. In addition, it honors and supports the families of officers. As you know, if you have watched our podcast, our cameraman and my husband is a police officer, so this race is very meaningful for me and it is very difficult to talk on camera at times. But it is a cause I believe in very deeply and want others to support.
Also... it does help us get in some hill work with that bridge!
A special thank you to Captain Jay Rodriguez who took time to talk with us about the event that night and to Lieutenant Jeffery Bernice who coordinated such a great event to honor the fallen and raise money for their families.
EAT
In downtown Fort Myers there are a whole host of businessmen and women looking for a quick and tasty lunch during the work day. Downtown Fort Myers has gotten a makeover during the last few years with some nice and trendy restaurants and bars that contribute to a revitalized night life as well.
A staple of downtown Fort Myers since 2005 is Downtown House of Pizza. They have a variety of tasty pies. It is popular with the bar-hopping crowd at night as well as a place to grab a quick lunch if you are working downtown near the courthouse. We tried their new vegan pizza, complete with a vegan cheese and tons of fresh veggies. The garlic, oregano, and outstanding crust make this pizza delicious. It is a nice healthy option. I would not have known it was vegan if you did not tell me! We definitely want to go back and try more pizza and some of DHOP's homemade desserts, too!
DRINK
We have been wanting to try Fort Myers Brewing Company for a long time. The first local brewery in Fort Myers, this cool little place opened back in 2013. In May we featured a collaboration beer they made for Nice Guys Pizza's 5th anniversary celebration. This time, we went directly to the source. It is located in Gateway. Fort Myers Brewing Company has become a gathering place for people to taste great local beer, sample food from some great food trucks, and attend fun community events like a Halloween beer mile and more! We talked with Joel Germain and he took us through a flight of their original beers and talked about what makes it such a great place to have a beer and stay a while.

Wednesday Oct 24, 2018
Wednesday Oct 24, 2018
One last Keys Quick Bite from Islamorada on the way home!
This Quick Bite continues our weekish-long look at trip we took to Key West to run the Southernmost Half Marathon at the beginning of October. This continues our post-race celebration as we head home from our runcation.
On our way home, we wanted to feel like we were still on vacation. You know that feeling... delay returning to reality as long as possible. So we stopped at the Islamorada Shrimp Shack. We had some amazing fish dip and capped off the meal with Key Lime Pie because we realized that we hadn’t had any this trip!! It was a tasty meal with fresh fish and a tart but sweet dessert.

RED Quick Bite #52: First Flight Island Restaurant and Brewery in Key West
Saturday Oct 20, 2018
Saturday Oct 20, 2018
A QUICK BITE FROM OFF DUVAL STREET
This Quick Bite continues our week-long look at trip we took to Key West to run the Southernmost Half Marathon at the beginning of October. This continues our post-race celebration along Duval Street in Key West.
We are headed to a very cool and iconic place this time, First Flight Island Restaurant and Brewery. This was the birthplace of Pan American World Airways, as a sign says when you approach this house with classic Key West feel and style. It is now the home of the Southernmost Microbrewery as well as some killer appetizers that you can have in their beer garden as you peer into their brewery. You can enjoy brunch, lunch, or dinner, complete with live music and roosters that visit right in the beer garden. We had a flight of their original beers to share with you as well as a great pasta appetizer - that's right - pasta, and even though this is Key West, and we were here mainly to taste the best seafood around, the beef brisket mac and cheese was so flavorful, meaty, creamy, and delicious. Key West has more than just seafood to offer runcationers celebrating their half marathon achievements! We want to come back at night and experience their seafood dishes as well as the nightlife in the beer garden.

RED Quick Bite #51: Tiki House in Key West
Friday Oct 19, 2018
Friday Oct 19, 2018
A QUICK BITE FROM OFF DUVAL STREET NEAR CAPTAIN TONY'S IN KEY WEST
This Quick Bite continues our week-long look at trip we took to Key West to run the Southernmost Half Marathon at the beginning of October. This continues our post-race celebration along Duval Street in Key West.
We used to watch Tiki Bar TV religiously. We loved all the tiki drinks they would make. We have a set of our own geeky tikis from Think Geek. So this place, Tiki House, was just our speed. We wanted to hang out at this little place and have several tiki beverages, but we only had time to try their signature drink, the Zombie. It was deadly delicious! We will be back and you should stop by, too! Great drinks, great atmosphere, and a great bartender make this a place to have a drink and stay a while.

A QUICK BITE FROM DUVAL STREET IN KEY WEST
This Quick Bite continues our week-long look at trip we took to Key West to run the Southernmost Half Marathon at the beginning of October. This continues our post-race celebration along Duval Street in Key West.
We were walking along Duval and stumbled upon a place called Wicked Lick that makes liquid nitrogen ice cream! It is a cute little place in the heart of Duval that is pirate-themed! Unique flavors combining savory and sweet is their speciality. We got to try a couple and talk to the owners of this brand new establishment. Have you heard of Tarragon Vanilla and Chipotle Almond Chocolate? We got to try both. They also have a great Maple Bacon flavor, too! Something is here for everyone! Check it out the next time you are in Key West.

RED Episode #40: Southernmost Half Marathon and DJ's Clam Shack in Key West
Wednesday Oct 17, 2018
Wednesday Oct 17, 2018
RUN
In this episode, we feature the Southernmost Half Marathon. We chose this race because our training schedule called for 12.5 miles this weekend and we thought, "Why not run it in Key West?" Who wouldn't want to see the beautiful sunrise on the Southernmost Point of the United States. It was humid and hot, but a beautiful course and friendly people. It was also held on the same course as a full marathon. The time limit was set to 6-hours for both races, so we thought it would be a no-pressure training run. The only thing we forgot to bring was our Night Tech Gear shoe lights because we started so early and we were unfamiliar with the course (next time!). We were thankful to have our Sqoosh to wipe away sweat during the race, and we needed to remember to hydrate and get electrolytes efficiently both before and during the race. It felt like it was still at the height of the heat and humidity of Florida summer. So anyone running this one as a first half marathon will love the longer time limit but should remember to stay hydrated, even when starting while it is still dark outside.
EAT
As a post-race celebration, we had DJ's Clam Shack on Duval Street in Key West. Clam strips and conch fritters are amazing there! We bragged about it so much that a friend of ours who went to Key West the very next weekend had the lobster roll and said he had died and gone to lobster heaven!
DRINK
We had local beer to toast our accomplishment from Islamorada Beer Company while at DJ's Clam Shack. It was Sandbar Sunday and it did not disappoint as a light and easy-drinking beer to toast completing our training run! Yes, we had other beers at Islamorada Beer Company when we stopped there, so we tried one that we did not have as part of our flight in our Quick Bite. It was glorious after run-walk-running 13.1 miles!

A QUICK BITE FROM ISLAMORADA
This Quick Bite continues our week-long look at trip we took to Key West to run the Southernmost Half Marathon at the beginning of October.
This Quick Bite features a flight from Islamorada Beer Company in Islamorada as we head down to Key West. They had a wide variety of beer on tap to try as well as their own distillery. I got a flight of 6 beers so we could share with you some lighter, some darker, and some unique kinds of beer from Islamorada Beer Company. They did not disappoint. A QUICK BITE FROM KEY LARGO
This Quick Bite starts our week-long look at trip we took to Key West to run the Southernmost Half Marathon at the beginning of October.
This Quick Bite features a great sandwich and two tasty local beers on tap at Blackwater Siren in Key Largo. A Mahi Ruben and Coconut Onion Rings were on the menu for us as well as Islamorada Beer Company's Citrus Ale and Florida Beer Company's Key West Sunset Ale. This place is great. RED Quick Bite #47: Artisan Eatery Special: Muffuletta
Saturday Oct 13, 2018
Saturday Oct 13, 2018
A QUICK BITE
This Quick Bite features a Muffuletta special from the board at Artisan Eatery. That is an amazing sandwich with an olive spread, a great bun, and some fantastic meats and cheeses reviewed by none other than our camera man, Dana!
This is small eatery that has been open less than a year, but back in February was ranked as one of the top 25 restaurants in the News Press. It is a little place with a feeling of home in between our main highway (US 41) and the Southwest Florida International Airport. All of the food is so tasty and made from local ingredients. You should check it out!
