Welcome to our first official audio episode of the Run Eat Drink Podcast!
RUN
This week, we are off the road and training for our next big race! We are excited to get to Run the Bluegrass at the end of this month in Lexington, Kentucky. Jeff Galloway is our coach and he has assigned us a long run of 15 miles. We talk about why.
EAT
We had a Saint Patrick’s Day pre-party the night before our run at Nice Guys Pizza with their Ruben Pizza, which was amazing. After completing our 15-miler, we needed celebratory food, of course! Our post-run food was from another favorite place, Nevermind Awesome Bar and Eatery. Shannon Yates, owner and chef, was putting together killer Corned Beef and Cabbage, and with a little twist that makes it unique and tasty. And as a bonus, we ran into Morgan Wright, or Morgan the Moose, our local celebrity from American Ninja Warrior, so we were able to wish him good luck as he heads to Atlanta for ANW Season 11!
DRINK
Nevermind Awesome Bar and Eatery collaborated with Big Top Brewing in Sarasota to create Shamrock Shannon Stout. This was a great way to celebrate completing the 15 miles. Why? It is smooth, not bitter, and it has been aged in Tullamore Dew barrels!

BONUS QUICK BITE!
This is the audio from last night's FB Live beer chat. We are experimenting with some new software and are trying our hand at an enhanced AAC audio podcast format. As the episode plays, you should see the episode artwork change (maybe, fingers crossed).
In this Quick Bite, Aimee is hosting a Facebook Live Beer chat live from No. 3 Craft Brews in Cape Coral Florida! It was a great way to kick off the St. Patrick's Day weekend and spend some time with you, virtually sharing some delicious food from The Currywurst Food Truck and the Cottonmouth Belgian Wit from Swamphead Brewing.
During the chat, we talk about what we have been up to over the past few weeks, like Podfest Media Expo and the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend. We also reminisce about the amazing food from Asian Kitchen and the drink we had from Sociale Italian Tapas and Pizza Bar in Tampa, FL.
We then discuss some great stuff that's coming up, namely our next big race, the Run The Bluegrass Half Marathon in Lexington, KY!
Finally, are making some format changes to the show and want to tell you about them. These changes should make it even easier for you to take us with you when you are on-the-go.

RED Episode #54: Mebisode at 2019 Gasparilla Distance Classic
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
At Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend, yes we ran a half marathon, but we also got to catch up with a very special guest...Meb Keflezighi!
He is the only man to win the New York City Marathon (2009), an Olympic Silver Medal (Athens 2004), and the Boston Marathon (2014). We were so lucky to interview him before our race back in 2018 at Gasparilla, but Liam from Hawi Management arranged for us to have a few minutes with a very busy Meb Keflezighi to talk about his new book, 26 Marathons: What I Learned About Faith, Identity, Running, and Life from My Marathon Career. Thank you, Liam! It comes out on March 19th and we have to say that we have already pre-ordered it and can’t wait to read it and listen to the audiobook on our next long run after its release!
Meb is such a humble and genuine man. He has gone through so much adversity in his life and turned it into success. He knows so much more than how to win, train for, and complete distance races. He knows the importance of family and community. He is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and this latest book is only one way he does just that. He supports other runners, no matter their level, and gives back to the sport endlessly. He even spent time telling us about a couple of races he is involved in coming up in California that give anyone a chance to accomplish, explore, and indulge. I hope we get to do them soon!
We thank Meb for the precious time we spent talking about these life lessons from the book as well as what he has on the horizon this year. We know from our talk that this book is not just for runners, but a book for anyone who is looking to be successful in the marathon of life.

RED Quick Bite #70: A Poke Bowl at Asian Kitchen in Tampa
Saturday Mar 09, 2019
Saturday Mar 09, 2019
In this Quick Bite, Aimee is back to try a Poke Bowl at Asian Kitchen! This is a continuation of our series recapping our visit to Tampa, Florida for our half marathon at the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend!
This restaurant takes a variety of Asian influences and puts a unique, fast, and fresh take on them. The poke bowl is a refreshing and healthy option with your choice of tuna, salmon, krab salad, or a combination. We got it with tuna and salmon. First of all, it looks beautiful. They say you eat with your eyes first, and with this one, I took one look and I was ready to dive in and taste those flavors! Avocado, tuna, salmon, seaweed salad, pickled veggies, edamame, and rice. The fish tasted so fresh and light with the creamy texture of the avocado and the salty kick from the seaweed, this was a dish that had so many levels of flavor, more than I even mention here. I just kept going back for more. (And yes, I did share with the cameraman!)
Be sure to drop by Asian Kitchen if you are in the area. The food is amazing. (Did we mention they do their own smoked meats, original sauces, and dry rubs for their dishes?)
Be sure to visit Asian Kitchen’s website or their Instagram (which had our mouths watering before we even arrived in the Tampa Bay area!)
Thank you, Lisa, for the outstanding dishes and for welcoming us in like family!

In this Quick Bite, our cameraman, Dana, tries a Bahn Mi sandwich at Asian Kitchen! This is a continuation of our series recapping our visit to Tampa, Florida for our half marathon at the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend!
This restaurant takes a variety of Asian influences and puts a unique, fast, and fresh take on them. They cleverly titled this sandwich the “Stand Bahn Mi” on their menu. As a child of the 80’s, this made me smile and think of the movie of the same name from that decade. You can choose your protein, and my cameraman decided on chicken. Then Lisa Larkin, owner of Asian Kitchen, told us that they would use chicken thighs to make the sandwich! That was so smart because the meat was tender and juicy. (Can you tell that the cameraman let me have a bite or two?)
Be sure to drop by Asian Kitchen if you are in the area. The food is amazing. (Did we mention they do their own smoked meats, original sauces, and dry rubs for their dishes?)

RED Quick Bite #68: Ramen Noodles at Asian Kitchen with Cameraman Dana
Thursday Mar 07, 2019
Thursday Mar 07, 2019
In this Quick Bite, our cameraman, Dana, tries one of his favorite dishes, Ramen Noodles, at Asian Kitchen! This is a continuation of our series recapping our visit to Tampa, Florida for our half marathon at the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend!
This restaurant takes a variety of Asian influences and puts a unique, fast, and fresh take on them. The Ramen Noodles that Dana tried at Asian Kitchen were topped with pork belly, although you can have any protein you want - chicken, pork belly, shrimp, or brisket just to name a few! Dana said that it felt very much like coming home because he grew up on authentic Asian cuisine from his next door neighbor, who was originally from Thailand.

Welcome to the big episode from Tampa featuring the Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend, more fast and fresh food from Asian Kitchen, and a great cocktail from Sociale Italian Tapas and Pizza Bar!
RUN
During Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend in Tampa, Florida, we ran the half marathon. If you are up for a challenge, you can do all the races, which consist of 5K and 15K on Saturday and the Half Marathon as well as the 8K on Sunday. The half marathon is a flat course with plenty of aid stations. The first 5 miles are on Davis Island. The last 8.1 miles of the race are on Bayshore Boulevard. So there is only one overpass to get in and out of the island and the rest of the course is flat! There are a few spectators cheering you through Davis Island but the bulk of on-course entertainment is on Bayshore. The bulk of the spectators cheer you on at the finish line and they are so great! The medals we earned - both the pirate-themed medal for the Gasparilla Half Marathon and the gigantic Treasured Chest Challenge medal for running this one and the 2019 Donna Half Marathon in Jacksonville earlier this month. The one thing I like to caution anyone about when I recommend this race is this: you never know what the weather will be like and it is usually extremely humid, so hydrate and keep up with any nutrition that you have been successful with in the past during long runs. Last year, we did not hydrate enough and got really sick after the race so we could not attend the after party (so sad because the Columbia Restaurant was there with great food!). So this year, while it was overcast, it was still very humid, so hydration in South Florida races is key. I recommend this race to anyone. It has a generous time limit, I’ve never seen someone picked up for going too slow (just encouraged to finish on the sidewalk) and is a fun and flat run.
EAT
We have shown you several great dishes this week from Asian Kitchen. Owner, Lisa Larkin, and her staff are killing it in this fast and fresh arena, and they’ve only been open two months! This time we feature one of my favorites and a great “carbo loading” kind of meal, Pad Thai. But in this case, remember that you can choose your protein! So we tried it with the brisket that they smoke right here with their own spice rub, too! It was so tender. The barbecue went perfectly with the peanut flavors that are traditional in the dish and the noodles were cooked perfectly and just soaked up both to provide the perfect bite. Textures were out of this world as well. The soft scrambled egg, freshness of cilantro, the crunch of both peanuts and bean sprouts, as well as the almost opaque noodles meant so much goodness and variety in every bite!
DRINK
We indulged in a refreshing original cocktail at Sociale Italian Tapas and Pizza Bar. We want to come back and try their tapas and pizza for sure. What a way to celebrate the completion of your race! It was their watermelon margarita called La Zia. It includes tequila, lime, muddled jalapeños with the seeds and watermelon purée made fresh. Krystal, bartender at Sociale Italian Tapas and Pizza Bar took us through a demo and let us try it. It was refreshing, slightly sweet, the acid from the lime was great, and the spice from the jalapeños is not overwhelming! We can’t wait to come back to Tampa and have a meal at Sociale Italian Tapas and Pizza Bar as well as indulge in some cocktails named after specific areas from around Tampa Bay! Hope to see you there!

RED Quick Bite #67: Sitting Down with Lisa Larkin, Owner of Asian Kitchen
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
Tuesday Mar 05, 2019
In this Quick Bite, we chat with Lisa Larkin, owner of Asian Kitchen as part of our visit to Tampa, Florida for our half marathon at the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend!
Lisa is from the Tampa area and she sat down to talk with us about the newest of the three restaurants her family has in the area, Asian Kitchen. It is located on Bayshore Boulevard, a few blocks off of the world-famous Bayshore sidewalk and so very close to MacDill Air Force Base. Asian Kitchen has only been open a few weeks, but Lisa and her staff are already so busy with both locals, military personnel, and visitors to the area like us!
Lisa is one of the nicest and dedicated people we have ever met. We were lucky to get her to sit down and talk with us for a few minutes because she is so dedicated to talking with customers and supporting her hard-working staff!
This restaurant takes a variety of Asian influences and puts a unique, fast, and fresh take on them. Lisa talks about her inspiration for opening Asian Kitchen. My mouth began to water as she talked about some of the dishes we will try on our upcoming episode and quick bites recapping our visit to Tampa for the second part of our Treasured Chest Challenge at the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend!

RED Quick Bite #66: Gasparilla Distance Classic Expo
Monday Mar 04, 2019
Monday Mar 04, 2019
This quick bite is a look at the expo at Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend!
During Gasparilla Distance Classic Weekend, the Tampa Convention Center East Hall is taken over. There are endless booths for runners, friends, and families to explore. This is a short look at what you can expect if you travel to Tampa, Florida, and come to the expo to pick up your race bib and shirt. I love expos that keep runners and their families in mind. This one had a Tampa Bay Bucs booth with games for all as well as plenty of race gear for anyone who may have forgotten something last minute. This expo is not just a quick stop to pick up your bib. Come stay and have some fun to get motivated for the race weekend ahead.

RED Episode #52: Half Marathon at Donna, Poe’s Tavern, and Engine 15
Monday Feb 25, 2019
Monday Feb 25, 2019
This episode continues our series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend! It’s the Half Marathon!
RUN
The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend has a race for everyone from 5k all the way to an Ultra Marathon. We participated in the Booby Trap Challenge, which means we complete the 5k on Saturday and the Half Marathon (or you might run the marathon) on Sunday of the race weekend in order to receive a bonus medal. (You know we are all about the bling!) This Half Marathon has such amazing community support. Each neighborhood in the Jacksonville Beach area we ran through had their own block party celebrating and cheering on runners. they had cupcakes, muffins, and beverages for us. Can you say that you have had a beer or a mimosa on a race course before? How about both? These people are amazing and make you go on and push through even when you feel like your legs have nothing left. It was such a flat course, too. No bridge at the end like last year’s half marathon. The weather started out as cold but warmed up over the course of the race so it was important to stay hydrated, and the official water and nutrition stops were plentiful and helped us do just that. 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend is a weekend like no other and everyone should do it at least once to get the amazing feeling we had when crossing the finish line.
EAT
After the 5k, we went into the Runners Village and were introduced to Poe’s Tavern. We had a slider from their tent and as we talked to their friendly staff, and they described all the full-size burgers named after Edgar Allan Poe’s stories, we knew we had to check it out. So after we crossed the finish line of the half marathon, we walked a block to Poe’s Tavern. I had the Black Cat burger with bacon, pimento cheese, grilled onions and Edgar’s drunken chili. The drunken chili has beer in it, so we got to explore burgers and indulge in great beer flavor at the same time! The burger was perfectly cooked (they will do it at any temperature) and tasted spicy, tangy, a little bit of sweetness from the pimento cheese and grilled onions. You should get a burger from here!
Poe was known for his drinking and for his amazing horror stories and poetry, so the menu has an item for every one of his pieces of literature. The restaurant and bar has movie posters from classic films based on his works, and if you go into the bathroom you hear audiobooks of his work as well as see wallpaper made out of pages from his novels.
DRINK
Engine 15 Brewing has been in the Jacksonville since 2014. They have two locations, a beach location and their brewery and tap room in an industrial area of downtown Jacksonville. We were at their downtown location, and we were so lucky we chose that one because it has such rich history, in just the building alone. Their outdoor beer garden often has a food truck and is a huge space where they can host a lot of really well-attended events, some family-friendly and educational, too. Luciano Scremin, owner of Engine 15, took us on a tour and introduced us to a flight of their eclectic beers and cider.

Thursday Feb 21, 2019
This quick bite continues our series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend! It’s a look at The Runners Village after the 5k!
The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend has a post-race party at the Runners Village and has so much community support from local coffee shops and restaurants. This party atmosphere gives runners a chance to celebrate together, have some local food and beverages, and applaud the top finishers as well. We sampled offerings from Mini Bar Donuts and Poe’s Tavern. We showed you Mini Bar Donuts in our Social Shakeout Run Episode #50 from the Donna Marathon Weekend, and Poe’s Tavern will be featured in an upcoming episode as we recap our half marathon experience there.

RED Episode #51: The 5K at The Donna Marathon Weekend and Wicked Barley Brewing Company
Wednesday Feb 20, 2019
Wednesday Feb 20, 2019
This episode continues our series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend! It’s the 5k!
(You know we are all about the bling!) This 5k showed us a great course along Jacksonville Beach and gave us a taste of the community support and encouragement that is a hallmark of this race weekend. The course was flat, fast, and included a great runners’ village as well as a great little medal showing off the symbol of the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend.
EAT
We headed to Wicked Barley Brewing Company because we heard they have a classically-trained chef taking bar food to a new level. Cheese curds, a homemade pretzel with cheese sauce featuring one of their original lagers, and a great pork belly sandwich will have your mouth watering. They were so much more than your typical bar food.
DRINK
Wicked Barley Brewing Company has a great tap list featuring so many great original beers and meads. Patrick and Jen talked to us about the brewery and some of the stories behind the clever names as well as what goes into these tasty beverages.
We loved it at Wicked Barley Brewing Company. You should stop by and see them!

Saturday Feb 16, 2019
This week’s episode starts a series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend!
RUN
The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend started with a Social Shakeout Run on Friday. It was a 5k to get us going for the fun weekend of running ahead. I love that this weekend gets kicked off by an easy run where you can meet some great people you’ll be running on the same course with during the races like Donna Deegan, the Chief Eternal Optimist and founder herself, Olympian and America’s Coach, Jeff Galloway, Dr. Edith Perez of the Mayo Clinic, and Dr. Andi Sharp of the Bouncy HuntERs, an organization that raises money for The Donna Foundation. The course for this fun run is also a preview of a latter part of the half marathon as well. It means so much when we encounter them on the course during the 5k and the half later in the weekend, having heard their stories of strength, survival, and supporting others.
EAT
The Mini Bar... when you hear that you might think of a hotel mini bar, but in this case, it is made from scratch donuts and creative coffee. It is right next door to Southern Swells Brewing and the perfect breakfast food to refuel after a run. The place has a fun takeout counter that is designed to look like a Volkswagen van. And did I mention the mini doughnuts that take you back to childhood? Tasty flavors based on favorite childhood cereals and desserts make up their menu and cereal lattes to comfort you like staying in and watching Saturday morning cartoons on a chilly day. (It was a little cold on race morning!)
DRINK
We had to celebrate the start of our great weekend of running to support a great cause with a tasty beverage, of course! So we headed to Southern Swells Brewing. We had a chance to chat with owner Corey Adams about a flight of their original beers. They are focused on citrusy New England IPAs, stouts, and sours. Normally, we don’t select these types of beers from a menu, but Corey really set us up with selections that gave us the inspiration to give those types of beer a first glance the next time we look at a beer menu. He gave us a nice education about the different kinds of hops that can used to create IPAs and thus create different flavors than you would typically expect. Thank you, Corey!

This week’s episode starts a series featuring one of our favorite race weekends, the 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend!
RUN
The 2019 Donna Marathon Weekend started with a Social Shakeout Run on Friday. It was a 5k to get us going for the fun weekend of running ahead, but it also gave us the chance to sit down with three very important people who started this race weekend. It was such an honor to talk with these three and find out how this weekend got its roots. Thank you so much to, Amanda Napolitano, Executive Director of the Donna Foundation, who arranged this time for us to chat!
Donna Deegan is the Chief Eternal Optimist of the Donna Marathon Weekend and the Donna Foundation. Dr. Edith Perez is a professor of medicine at the Mayo Clinic. Finally, an amazing friend of our podcast and America’s Coach, Jeff Galloway, is the one who suggested that Donna start it all when they spotted each other at an Expo for the Gate River Run. They talk about the history of the race, the amazing advancements in research and the families it has supported, and the reasons this weekend is a must-do and such a special race weekend.
It is one that we plan to do every year to honor those we have lost to breast cancer, but also to experience one of the best running block parties we have ever been to in our running career!

Monday Jan 28, 2019
It’s our episode featuring the 21st Annual Key West Half Marathon and Henry and Eli’s Side Street Pub!
RUN
The 21st Annual Key West Half Marathon was on a Sunday with less an ideal weather conditions in Key West. Thunderstorms caused a couple of delays. Originally we were supposed to start at 7. Then we were postponed twice more before crossing the start line at about 9:15 AM. It was raining at the start but shortly after the first mile, it stopped so our need for ponchos was no more.
This course was somewhat the same and a bit different from Southernmost Half Marathon back in October. The Southernmost had a 6-hour time limit because a full marathon was going on at the same time whereas this one had a 4-hour time limit. Both courses were flat for the most part. This one was out and back whereas Southernmost was a loop of Key West. It was interesting to compare the two races.
The course was flat nearly the entire way. Starting with a tour of Duval Street was great because it gave us chance to see all the places along Duval before the hustle and bustle of the night life. Then it was onto the half way point by way of a beautiful ocean view. It was definitely warming up more so than if we had started earlier, but still a flat course. The water stops were well-staffed and about every couple of miles early on in the race. It was an out and back so we had one overpass at the half-way point and then we traced our steps back by the water. The course did not take us directly back on Duval for the finish. It was on a couple of side streets and we were on sidewalks because of the lateness of the finish. We actually got off course for the last half mile. Afterward, I think the heat really got to me. I should have hydrated more on the course and I was starving! We finished in really warm conditions, but we met some really great people along the way, got a great medal with a mermaid on it, and then we were ready to explore and indulge in some food and beverage.
EAT
Henry and Eli’s Side Street Pub was where we headed for much needed food and beverage after those challenging weather conditions. This is a neat place off Duval inspired by the owners’ rescue dogs, Henry and Eli. Their menu has a dog-inspired theme and there is even a menu for man’s best friend because they are welcome to come hang out with you here!
Scott, a veteran, owner, and chef here was kind enough to take us through a demo of how he makes their delicious Seafood Pizza. Garlic and olive oil sauce, shrimp, scallops, crab, and mozzarella cooked to perfection! It reminded me of some of the best shrimp scampi, seared scallop, and crab dishes I have ever had but on a pizza with a thin and crisp crust, just like I love it!
DRINK
We took Scott’s recommendation and had a Blue Point Toasted Lager which really helped punctuate the flavor of the seafood on the pizza. Not bitter, not hoppy, it had nice caramel and malty notes. It was delicious and refreshing after running 13.1. It was a perfect way to toast our accomplishment.
Stop by and check out the great atmosphere, live music and community events if you’re in Key West. Thank you to owners Scott and Sherree for a great introduction to Henry and Eli’s Side Street Pub!

RED Quick Bite #63: Kiki’s Sandbar in Little Torch Key
Friday Jan 25, 2019
Friday Jan 25, 2019
It’s another delicious Quick Bite as we make our way to the 21st Annual Key West Half Marathon!
On our drive down to the race we always like to stop off at place that look like it might have some interesting food and beverage offerings we can share with you. In Little Torch Key, we found Kiki’s Sandbar.
A laid-back bar right on the beach, Kiki’s will cook anything you catch or provide you with some tasty treats from their menu. This place has a vacation vibe. You can put a drink in your hand and your feet in the sand.
We tried the Sneaky Kiki because it had Trader Vic’s Rum in it and that made us reminisce about our trip to Trader Vic’s in Atlanta last month for the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend (Trader Vic’s was featured on the Barb’s 5K episode). It was such a great time there, although we have to admit the climate here was much warmer and very tropical.
And... if you have not tried their Ahi Tuna Nachos... you must. The tuna can be cooked to your desired temperature and the “nachos” are perfectly crisp wantons. Hoisin sauce, seaweed, sesame seeds, wasabi peas... my mouth waters even as I write this because I could have them again and again.
We had to get going to get down to Key West for packet pickup, so we could not linger any longer, although, you’d think time would stop here for everyone. At Kiki’s Sandbar, you can truly be in an island state of mind.
If you get a chance, stop off at Kiki’s Sandbar in Little Torch Key on your way down to Key West. You won’t regret it. Yum!

RED Quick Bite #61: A Chat with Kevin Gwin from the Extra Mile Podcast
Monday Jan 14, 2019
Monday Jan 14, 2019
Welcome to our last Quick Bite from Atlanta, Georgia and the 5th Anniversary of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend.
It’s a chat with a fellow podcaster!
It’s the start of a new year. At this time, many people are setting goals and making resolutions in hopes that 2019 will be their best year yet.
We thought that if your goals included running, training for races, or just using run-walk-run to get an enjoyable fitness experience, you might like to hear about a couple of podcasts that can support your goals!
This week we chat with fellow podcaster Kevin Gwin, host of The Extra Mile Podcast and The Extra Mile Podcast: Galloway Edition. These are great to listen to during a long run to gain insights from fellow runners as well as being able to hear advice from an Olympic runner and America’s Coach.
You can subscribe to these two podcasts in iTunes. We recommend them as great support and a wealth of information to support your fitness goals.
Thank you so much to Kevin for taking time to tell us how he got started creating a community of runners and how he got in touch with Jeff Galloway and how he became a fellow podcaster and running coach.

RED Quick Bite #60: Our Cameraman’s Take on Wrecking Bar Brewpub Brunch
Sunday Jan 06, 2019
Sunday Jan 06, 2019
Welcome to Atlanta, Georgia and the 5th Anniversary of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend! It’s our post-race brunch celebration... continued!
EAT
This week, it’s my cameraman’s take on The Wrecking Bar Brewpub brunch. He had the Pastrami Hash with perfectly cooked pastrami, peppers, onions, potatoes and egg. My mouth is watering even thinking about it!
DRINK
Did we mention that The Wrecking Bar Brewpub also has tasty brunch cocktails? The spicy Bloody Mary is a delicious cocktail including Tito’s Vodka that the bartenders have spiced up in their own way at the Wrecking Bar to make an awesome and dangerous brunch cocktail.

RED Episode #47: 2018 Jeff Galloway Half Marathon
Friday Dec 28, 2018
Friday Dec 28, 2018
Welcome to Atlanta, Georgia and the 5th Anniversary of the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon Weekend! It is half marathon time!
RUN
This episode features the Jeff Galloway Half Marathon on Sunday of race weekend. In this race, it was chilly, wet, and sometimes raining, but we got to see some of the best sites of Atlanta. The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center, the Atlanta Beltline, the hilly and beautiful Virginia Highlands, and the big finish in Piedmont Park. Jeff was waiting for after the finish for a photo and the medal was unbelievable! It was the biggest I have ever seen. What a great comeback after the injury last year! It is a friendly, no-pressure way to introduce yourself to this distance with so much support. It is a must-do for any run-walk-runner.
EAT
We featured small bites and a great mixed drink from The Wrecking Bar Brewpub last year, and since this was a comeback, we had to come back here to feature their awesome brunch. Country Fried Steak was on the menu and it was perfect. The gravy included the made in-house cheddarwurst we originally tasted in the corn pups last year. Perfectly cooked steak with a crispy breading was at the heart of this dish topped with a runny egg like my daddy used to make for me as a kid. So tasty! We had a couple of other items from their menu, so stay tuned for other tasty brunch treats from this awesome Atlanta find.
DRINK
Did we mention that The Wrecking Bar Brewpub also has a brewery right on site and we tried two of their tasty original beers? Maltlanta Doppel Sticke and Choco Mountain Imperial Breakfast Stout were our choices. They are both high ABV but delicious. Maltlanta had caramel and biscuit notes and Choco Mountain had strong coffee flavors as it had barrel-aged coffee beans used in the brewing process. We have more to show you from their beer menu as well as cocktails on future quick bites!
